when packages are sent to the u.s. they go thru u.s. customs and border protection. packages are x-rayed and opened if necessary. if merchandise is illegal it may be seized. the inspectors work at the international mail facility here in JFK in new york

You have to fill out a customs form and attach it to the outside of the package, stating the contents of the package. If for some reason they decide to open your package, they will find whatever you are trying to conceal. I think it might depend on what country you are mailing to. But I don't think too many are opened, as they are mainly looking for explosives and things like that.

If he is in the military and stationed overseas, then yes, it most likely will be checked. My friend was stationed in Iraq, and I wanted to send him a small bottle of his favorite rum, but was told not to. All incoming packages were not only x-rayed before being delivered to his camp, but then inspected by officers at that camp. All were opened and inspected for contraband and x-rated material. Also all incoming/outgoing emails were inspected as well.

They will go through customs in the country where received. If it is the military it will probably not be checked. If it is in Iran he will probably be shot. I would not send anything that is against the law in the country where it is being sent to.

They x-ray EVERYTHING that goes on an airplane. (I used to work with Royal Mail). However, they couldn't care less about x-rated things, they are simply loving for bombs.

All packages will be scanned. Military packages go through an APO/FPO , but again all packages will be scanned.
