Midge Ure

Bono would be tops on the list.

However, the efforts of these rock stars is limited, at best. Raising money, or convincing western nations to forgive the debts of poor countries, does little or nothing to eradicate poverty. The first thing that has to be done is to address the rampant corruption in these countries. Why is it that country like Nigeria, which is oil rich, is so poor?

Further, better use of money would go a long way. For instance, malaria and dysentery kill more than 10 times the people each year than does HIV/AIDS in Africa alone. Yet, almost no money is allocated to clean water systems or killing mosquitos. It is estimated that with $50B over 10 years, malaria and dysentery can be virtually eliminated from the African Continent. Yet, the do-gooders want to spend or forgive 10x that amount to fight AIDS and reward corrupt politicians.

AIDS is an optional disease...virtually 100% preventable by choice.

Midge Ure helped with the original Band Aid and Live Aid.

Bono and Sting have also done their bit in recent years.

Mick Jagger is still fighting poverty within the Jagger household as he is a firm believer that charity begins at home.

Rock musicians will do anything to get famous, even beating the old charity drum! They only care about themselves, but are ruthless in exploiting any opportunity to get media attention. All the fuss they make doesn't help half as much as the people in Africa and other areas help themselves, we should applaud them, not greedy musicians. BONO is the worst at present, he's everywhere.

Bono from U2 and all the other people on that clicky fingers advert...Justin Timberlake (not exactly rock star) Liam Neeson (Not at all a rock star but champion actor) and the list goes on....

Bono of U2. Although I think that both of them are quite misguided. They may have given the subject a greater profile but their tactic of putting the blame and the responsibility for its solutions on western governments is quite cynical and wrong.
