My daughter has something called S.O.D (septic optic dyplasia) it can affect her sight and her mental growth, but it affects all children differently. Some children are only affected with a slight visual impairmnent. Others have some forms of mental retardation. The doctor tells me that right now my daughter is mentally right on track, so she is assuming that she will only be affected visually. But now i am freaking out about her being able to make all of her milestones!!! She is six months old and can sit up alone and roll over. She also is beginning to eat cereal and gerber foods, and she loves to play with toys (even though she mostly just puts them in her mouth!) Can anyone please give me average ages for a baby crawling, waliking, talking, pulling themselves up, feeding themselves? Thank you!!!

She's right on track, so there's nothing to worry about right now. Someone should be out monitoring her development, so if this isn't happening call your local school district to see who's responsible for Early Start services in your area.

Crawling: 7-9 months (although some babies skip this alltogether)
Talking: first words appear around 12 months
Pulling to a stand: 8-10 months
Walking: anywhere from 9-18 months is normal
Feeding self: finger feeding starts at about 7 months. By 12 months the child should be able to feed themselves for most of the meal.

* If she has visual impairments then she may be a little behind in these areas. A visual impairment automatically makes her eligible for free Early Start services.

You will probably get a lot of different answers for this one because there is a range for all the stages. My one son walked at 12 months, the other at 10 months (the 12 months was about average). However, my neice didn't start walking until she was 15 months. Some doctors aren't concerned with crawling and don't consider it an important milestone, especially if your child is starting to show signs of walking instead. (ie pulling self up on furniture and cruising.) I was told my 18 month old should be saying about 15 words by now. (He says maybe 4) My first son didn't talk until he was 2 and he just exploded with speech and making sentences. Our doctor is not worried about my 18 month old figuring he will probably do the same. As long as he's comprehending, we don't worry about it. Around 6 months old (if he's been eating solids for a while, you can probably start with the cheerios. She will try to feed herself. However, again, my first son only first started eating solids at 6 months, so he didn't start feeding himself cheerios until 8 months old. He is almost 4 and advanced for his age now. Remember, all children are different and to trust your doctor, but more importantly, trust your own instincts!

Good luck.

SHE SEEMS ON TRACK. MY SON IS JUST 6 MONTHS OLD AND HE ISN'T SITTING UP ON HIS OWN JUST YET ALMOST. HE TO IS EATING GERBER FOODS AND ROLLING ALL OVER ALSO.
ALL CHILDREN ARE DIFFERENT BUT ON AVERAGE
6-9 MONTHS THEY START TO SIT UP, CRAWL, GET THERE FIRST TEETH.(MY SON HAS HIS 2 BOTTOM ONES ALREADY JUST IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS)
BY 12 MONTHS THEY SHOULD BE WALKING MY DAUGHTER WAS 11 MONTHS SOME ARE SOONER THEN THAT. YOUR DAUGHTER SEEMS TO BE ON TRACK TRY NOT TO WORRY TO MUCH. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

You are a very worried mommy. From what you mention about your baby, she seems to be proceeding well. All children put things in their mouth at young age. Keep in touch with your pediatrician.Don't try to hurry your child along in her development, that can be very bad. Relax and enjoy your baby's progress. :)

you shouldn't be trying to hold your daughter to some standard, or ideal that you have in your head.

she is an individual, with her own special situation, and you should treat it as such. as long as she is healthy and happy, you're both fine.
