BSL : British Sign Language

There is one that was produced by the BBC and the other two were produced by the SQA The Scottish Qualifactions Authority. Some of the signing is slightly different in Scotland than it is the rest of the UK so ideally that person should reside in Scotland though not necessarily so.

I am desperate to learn BSL. I believe everyone should learn BSL from the first year in school to provide a more inclusive environment for children who are either deaf, or unable to verbally communicate for other reasons.

I have bought some books to help me learn to sign, but visual aids would be incredibly useful to me. I desire to be a clinical psychologist working with children, and signing would be a very useful skill indeed. I currently do voluntary work with an autistic child in a local school and find work with special needs children incredibly rewarding.

I also work in a shop where many deaf customers regularly shop and require assistance. Although I admire their ability to communicate with us via lip reading on both parts, I feel I should at least attempt to learn sign language, as it would enrich their experience of shopping, and also make their lives easier. If I were deaf myself I would be comforted by being able to fully communicate with someone who understood exactly what I required, rather than vaguely, based on a sub-acceptable level of communication.

Essentially, BSL videos would be incredibly useful to me as I am attempting to learn from books at the moment, and visual reassurance that I am performing signs correctly would be very encouraging. I desire to use British Sign Language as a method of communication in various environments, and believe everyone should be taught basic sign from infancy. I would therefore pass on the tapes once I had learnt all they offered to teach me, so that the learning would continue.

You are offering a very kind opportunity. I would be interested in receiving your videos or if you wish to split your gift i would be interesting in receiving just one of them.
I have an interest in learning BSL as i'm a holistic therapist and have thought about branching out to encompass deaf clients but i would need to learn sign first. From a personal point of view i would also like to teach my cousins child BSL so that she may have opportunities that many others do not.
Thank you
