Just look in every magazine, on TV, and in movies. Looks are still the number one in society....the "personality" gets noticed after the "looks". Sad, but I think it's true.

As an adult, I find that I am more interested in someone's sense of humour, and personality than their appearance - you care to be around people who make you laugh, and who are sincere.
Whether it is politically correct or not looks can be important - not that anyone has to be devastatingly beautiful to get ahead in life (you still need skills) but again, you do have to make an effort to be presentable.
I knew someone once who was very very nice, but not very clean (with some gross habits), and that was hard to get past - I'm sure for any potential employers as well. That was a case of upbringing, but it gives a message that if you don't pay enough attention to present yourself in a positive light, what DO you care about?

I wish lots of people said that personality is more important than looks. You give today's society too much credit!
Unfortunately or fortunately, looks are initially more important than personality because of the first impression factor. The field is usually leveled after the person opens their mouth. There are many beautiful people with great personalities too. They get the lion's share of societal goodies.

take a go searching. Do you spot any makeup billboards with Susan Boyle as their type, with a caption lower than that asserts- "yet only imagine of her inner elegance." ? No lower than no circumstances it really is continually alluring, darkish skinned fashions. With captions like "possibly she's born with it." i'd say we are even further from the interior elegance argue meant than we've ever been. And with a society that flourishes on sex, and what's alluring, and sex scenes in maximum video clips now a days i imagine all that would favor to grant you your answer. You by no skill see sex scenes, or Victoria secret magazines with cleft lip migits that are lacking an eye fixed in them only because they are somewhat attractive human beings at coronary heart. anybody who makes the argument that inner elegance concerns in society as hostile to previous is unaware of each little thing round them.

Looks are hype for commercials-buy this- buy that. sex sells.
Ever see any three pound women snacking on Special K cereal?
or yogurt?
Heck no--always slim and pretty women in a bikini.
Old adage you can't judge a book by it's cover or an apple by it's outside.
Look at Hollywood-most of those people have miserable lives.
Take care of yourself-dress nice- talk nice and be nice-
You'll have more friends than those phonies.
Personality is life
looks always looking for a life to live.
Be yourself.
Who want a world of clones?

Unfortunately, I feel our society is becoming more and more image based....at first glance, 98 percent of the population will judge you in some way based on your appearance. ( I guess the other 2% are blind??)
It's that way for me too, hate to admit it. It all changes when I get to know the person though, and from there I'd say that personality is the main factor in relationships I have.

Well, I think that it depends on where you live. In Southern California, looks are very important and this is across the board for everyone. Honestly, your outward appearance is a person's first impression of you.

are they important? i like to look clean and efficient. but do people really care anymore, so many overweight people, highest rate in the world for fat people. that's ashame. nothing against them at all its just how could everyone let them selves go? personality is important i see that all the time, if i go out with girlfriends and the guy likes one girl for looks but sees shes really snobby or immature he will go for the ok looking girl.

Personality comes a long way for sure... looks only last so long...
persona is what it is all about... Who you are inside and your beliefs shows alot more than just a look.. example: Anglea Jolie vs Paris Hilton... Who has looks and has more soul and showing for the world.... Angela Jolie.... But without looks we can move to Oprah Winfrey... So its all about the inside... don't give up on looking good.. we gotta feel beautiful inside and out!!!
So be true to yourself and be beautiful inside and out!
No matter what shape, size, or look you have!

I think personality is important, but I would be lying if I said that I didn't go by looks as well. Unless you have known that person their whole life, you usually judge someone on looks first.
