Float them in water. Density is based on a scale with water as 1. Things that float have a density less than 1, things that sink have a density greater than 1.
The volume can also be determined by measuring the amount of water that is displaced.

Put an empty container on top of a dish.
Fill up the container with water...right up to the brim/rim.
Drop a pen/pencil slowly into the water; water will spill out and flow into the dish. Try to collect all the spilled water because any left on the container or spilled out of the dish will affect the accuracy of your results.
Remove the container and empty the dish water into a liter flask with clear units of measure on it. Again, make sure all the water is transferred to the flask.
Note how many liters (probably milliliters) of water you collected from the dish. The liters you collected represent the volume (V) of the pen/pencil. Make sure you change milliliters into liters as the unit if your flask read milliliters.
Now weigh the pen/pencil to get its weight (W). Solve for the mass (m) of the pen/pencil by W = mg; there W is in Newtons, mass is in kilograms, and g is 9.81 m/sec^2, the acceleration due to gravity.
Solve for density rho = m/V using the volume of water you collected for each and the mass you derived from each weight. rho's units will be kg/liter if you've done the math correctly.

Pens and pencils are both cylinders (roughly), so take the appropriate measurements and calculate the volume of each.
To find the density of each, weigh on a scale that deals in grams, then divide by the calculated volume.
density = weight/volume

take a beaker filled upto certain level say 50cms.Now immerse the pencil in water.look at the level of beaker.it has rised.now subtract intial reading from final reading.the answer you get is the volume of pencil.repeat the experiment with pen.once you've got the volume you can easily find out density of pen and pencil.find the mass of pen and pencil.DENSITY=MASS/VOLUME.the unit of density is gram per centimeter cube in cgs system.

The pen and the pencils don't have a volume, they can displace volume in a liquid or gas.

Find the volume of it. I think the closest way to do that is to use the formula for the volume of a cylinder.

Weght them, put them in volumetric containers full of a certain amount of water and the increase is their volume. density=mass/unit volume
Weight will do.

use archimedes principle. nothing can be better than this. first wieght them and then find their volume and use the density formula i.e. density is equal to mass divided by volume. this is the best answer you can get. i want 10 points form you

how much water they displace will tell you their volume.. how far they sink in water will tell you the density..
