Excellent question. White gold will have those small itchings that say either 14k, or 18k or whatever the caratage is on it, but Platinum will say P then a number. Otherwise no other visible differeence except of course, price.

Platinum is heavier than gold and bigger sturdy yet many times no longer as brilliant. If it has an indicator that is going to teach the assay workplace e.g. Birmingham an anchor, the classic .950. White gold will teach a familiar mark of .375 for 9ct, .585 for 14ct and .750 for 18ct. White gold is yellow gold bleached white by including a white alloy. it truly is mostly plated with a white metallic called rhodium a bye made from platinum in the different case white gold can teach a yellow tinge. to look at a chunk of jewellery, for instance a wedding ceremony ring on someones finger, it will be complicated to inform the version between silver white gold or platinum. On a gem ring you could also see the 18ct hallmark or merely 18ct plus the note Plat. that's the position the shank is gold and the placing is platinum. those days because 18 white gold is better sturdy than it changed into once the white placing is often white gold. also platinum is significantly better extreme priced than gold, it truly is a shy away as human beings ask your self why they ought to bigger even as it truly is frustrating to inform the version. you may have the metallic examined by acids which shoes a special reaction to the metals. once you've a chunk of jewellery and also you want to be certain for particular then take it your interior of sight jeweller. Hop this facilitates.

If you're looking at a ring the inside of the shank will be marked PLAT if it's platinum or "whatever"kt if it's white gold. Looking at the 2 side by side, you wont see a difference, but platinum id MUCH heavier. Platinum also has a different wear pattern after you've worn it awhile, it will get almost a matte finish, where WG usually stays shiny.
Also keep in mind that ALL white gold is yellow gold underneath. When wg is "made" it's as yg and has a rodium finish put on it.
Platinum is the strongest metal you can wear, but not necessarily better.

Yeah, you can look for the 14k or 18 k or the plat. but if you take a white gold piece and a platinum piece and put it side by side you will see that the white gold looks more silver and the platinum piece looks more like a deep grey color.

It may be hard to tell by looking at them, but they have different hardnesses when using the Mohs scale. They also have different wieghts. Any competent jeweler would be able to tell the difference in an instant.

By the stamp.
If you can't see the stamp, then white gold is more whitish silvery, while platinum is more grayish silvery.
If you can't compare them, and you can't see a stamp, then you would have to take it to a jeweler.

lol whelp.. platinum is stronger.. so if you take the object and say drag it across something gritty, it shouldn't smudge or scratch..

White gold will... Gold is soft metal.. platinum is not..
