my skin is gettin worse as i get older - I'm nearly 21 and it's becoming greasier and greasier. i've tried all of the clearsil, oxy products etc designed for teenagers with spots, but they are too harsh on my skin and dries it out (but i still get the oil and grease!) i dont get many spots or blemishes, but i do get unbeleivable oily skin. it feels like i've got a film of oil over my skin (without tocuhing it), and i can literally wipe the oil off with my finger if it gets too bad, and i'm very conscious of it. i've tried tea tree oil, witch hazel, all the moisturisers going, facials, masks - nothing works! i use an oil free foundation, clean & clear oil control wipes to control it, and garnier pure a moisturisers and facial wash at the moment. somebody help me, please!

Been there, done that, and I know how it feels.

Best look at your diet. A diet with hydrogenated (trans-) fats and other factors such as dairy consumption, drugs and alcohol, or even just overeating, will clog up the gall bladder over time with toxins excreted by the liver.

A clogged gall bladder is a very frustrating and potentially dangerous situation, and you will notice that if you injest most any fatty food it will make you feel sluggish, irritable and almost immediately your skin will start to ooze. You may also be subject to headaches and a sense of being cold when others are comfortable.

Avoid cheese and study detoxification programs. Please be careful as some detox experts are more interested in immediate results than long term health. Become your own health authority, since you're the one having to live in your body.

My personal recommendation, (and I'm not a doctor, although I play one), is daily saunas, plenty of water, rest and exercise, and a diet consisting mainly of steamed rice and veggies eaten slowly and thoroughly chewed. Eat modest proportions and skip the unknown restaurant sauces in favor of flavorings with well studied ingredients.

Spices can also cause problems if done to excess, especially garlic.

Seaweed, especially soaked hijiki, wakame or kombu are very good food additives... they have ten to fifteen times the calcium and minerals of dairy and instead of clogging the digestive tract will help clean it out. Great for the skin!

Colonics are very popular, but I don't think they are a good idea in the long run.

As a rejuvenative, a facecloth with fresh water is easy and feels great several times a day.

Change your habits and you will look and feel better. Good luck!

P.S. Whenever possible, buy organic.

From being in the same boat as u i can tell you that the answer is to apply alcohol to the skin after u have washed and dried your skin. The alcohol causes the pores to shrink and close thus producing less oil. Don't do it everyday though otherwise u will dry the skin out.My nose used to ooze oil in mass amounts all day long and if i tried all the facial remadies all the skin would dry out and start to peel. Now i wash using Dove soap. Its PH level is neutral and that keeps my skin perfect! if the oil does start coming back i just head for some aftershave and dab it on. Always works for me. Hope this helps

Hi, you said you have used tea tree oil, but have you used The Body Shop's tea tree oil face mask? it draws out impurities before they can cause trouble and absorbs excess oil which helps refines the skin, without drying out, they also do a facial scrub that helps pores from getting blocked, also try the tea tree oil mattifying moisture gel and kiss goodbye to the shine.

I have exceptionally oily skin too, and have found that when I use the really strong products meant for teenage skin (i am 22) that it dries my skin out then it produces MORE oil to compensate.

I use a face wash twice daily with .5% salicylic acid instead of 2%. I also use the Avon product called TruePOREfection oil-free skin clearing lotion. It is moisturizing but has .5% salicylic acid too. It's worked well for me! =)

I stick with my 'big guns' of tea tree oil to treat pimples when they pop up, and occasionally will use lemon juice as an all over face rinse.

I'm with Annie (above) my skin is very greaSY and Liz Earl stuff is great for it-cleanse and polish is fab-never had a spot since i started using it. Take a close look at your diet as well-drink more water and try a detox-its about achieving balance for your body. it sounds as if you have put your skin through hell with all the different products. Find something you like and stick to it for at least 6 months to let your skin adjust. Good Luck

Dont use cheap products, they make your skin worse. Check out the products on QVC website, you need something like Decleor, Elemis or Gatineau, they are not too expensive but the ingredients used are natural and wont upset your skin. Liz Earle does a good range that is pretty cheap, you should try her cleanse and polish, its very cheap and gets rave reviews all the mags. She also does face creams and toners which are excellent. You can order and try out for 30 days from QVC.

Maybe you should try using a more intensive moisturiser. I think at the moment your skin might be thinking its too dry, so is producing loads of oil to overcome that, so if you provide the moisture with a cream then your skin might settle down. Just think though, in 30 years time, you'll have the youngest looking skin out of anyone your age.

Im 30 and until I started using dermalogica products 8 months ago my skin sounded like yours. Do your skin a favour and buy the special cleansing gel and within a week your skin will be the envy of all your mates - yes...its that good. You can get it at any of the major beauty salons or on ebay. Sometimes all these face washes and scrubs are bad for our skin and leave it open to bacteria and germs.

If the normal facial products like Clearisil aren't working, you should probably go to the dermatologist. They can prescribe something that should help. You say you use the clean & clear oil absorbing sheets- those are really helpful as well. Check your facial products and make sure they are oil-free. Neutrogena and Clearisil make oil-free face products. As I said, if nothing is working for you, you probably want to see a professional.
