Gaping Shirt

2016-12-10 20:24:55 · answer #2 · answered by camargo 4 · 0 0

I dont agree with the whole buying a bigger size thing - I am a 12 and tried on shirts up to size 18 - they were still gaping at the front but really baggy around the waist. Safety pins are the only sensible option but I just go for t-shirt tops now. Either that or just wear a really nice bra so everyone is impressed if they see it

Try getting a bigger size. You can always have the sides altered to match your waist better, but there's only so much you can do about the gaping. If the shirt will lay flat when you pin it, and not be noticed at all, then you're good. But more than likely, when you pin it, if it is entirely too small, you will still show signs of stretching and it will be obvious that it's an ill fit. Good luck!

Gosh, I really can't believe some of the other answers.

Simple fact - most button down shirts are not designed for curvy and/or large breasted women. I love my curvy shape - I have large breasts, a small waist, nice curvy hips and perfectly shaped butt. I will NEVER be a size 2, nor do I want to be. And I am not plus sized either, I am a very proportioned size 8 and absolutley love how I look.

If the shirt is one you love, there was a great suggestion in one of the earlier answers - have the clear little "snap" buttons put on the shirt between the original buttons. This will make the gaps between the buttons less noticable and keep the shirt closed.

My other suggestion is to try another retailer. I find certain brands of clothes are designed for stick figures or really big women, no in between sizes for a shapely women. I tend to use Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft. Daisy Fuentes has her own clothing line (at Kohl's I think) that is for curvy women, her jeans are great! I tend to have to stay away from some main stream stores like the Gap or Banana Republic, their clothes just won't fit my curves, and I refuse to hide them.

Good luck!

My best friend of many years has had this problem becuase she has a large chest and small waist.

Her easiest solution is to remove the button (ot two) that is the most strained and to sew a new one a little closer to the seam. This is quick, fairly easy, and is not too noticible. This only works if you have a little bit of a gap though.

More often than not she gets her shirts one size larger and has it tailored.

You can try adding a small inside button in between the buttons already on the shirt. That way there aren't as big spaces between the buttons. If you go to a craft store, you can get small buttons fairly cheap that will hardly be noticable from the outside of the shirt. Another option are latch-hook type clasps... put one of those in between buttons and it should help too. Good luck!

yeah, do what fable f said, or just buy a bigger shirt. I feel your problem though, you want the shirt to fit you right...so you buy the size that fits your waist area, but is too tight across the chest. If you go up a bigger size, then it's too baggy. Just try the safety pin!

Sounds like the shirt is too small for you.

Buy a bigger sizeshirt.

Try it on in the shop, when you are wearing it, wave your arms in the arm, stretch them around, bend down to see if the shirt is tight on your back or whether the buttons pop open.

oh my god no-ones helping you!! i had exactly the same prob and you cant buy a biger shirt cuz it will be too big round waist and its awkward using pins etc and can look tacky if not hidden. its soo simple, i happened upon a breast cancer awarenes badge(or you can buy one similar) (you know the ones that attatch with a clasp a bit like a big earring stud) pin this inbetween the gaping buttons and voila!! it looks pretty, is contributing to charity and it works perfectly i promise :-)

I use a safety pin. The obvious answer is buy a bigger shirt but if you're anything like me, my chest size is two dress sizes bigger than my waste so it just looks like a sack! Try a seamfree vest underneath too, or minimiser bra(not very attractive but do the job!!)
