I hired a lawyer for child support and when he sets a court date my ex gets a lawyer and has it post poned every time and he hasn't paid since 1986. How can we make him stop this.

Can child services help you? Have you contacted them? If not, please do. Contact another lawyer if you feel this one isnt helping you. But, sooner or later the judge isnt going to allow any more postponements and the court date will happen. Maybe another lawyer will be more aggresive for you!! Good luck to you.

If the court dates are before the same judge, your lawyer needs to show history of postponment.

Depending on what state you are in, child support may go through the state Attorney General's office.

You should be entited to back child support even if you have children over the age of 18.

But...you need a better lawyer. This one seems to just be taking your money and not taking the welfare of your children into consideration.

get a different lawyer that knows what the hell their doing. stop wasting money on your current lawyer that seems to be a complete idiot a child support order shouldn't take years to set in place all you need to do is have a DNA test done to prove weather or not the ex is the child's father if the two of you weren't married during the time the child was born but if he was your husband during the time you gave birth to this child then by law he is the father no matter of the DNA results

Wow since 1986. Sorry to say but he sounds like a loser. Thats 20 yrs. Damn. Well, Look on the internet, there are certain companies that work with you to get you your child support. Sorry cant remember what its called. But does he work? The courts are suppose to be taking it out of his pay checks. All else fails ... have a really long talk with him about what it means to be a parent. He helped make the child .... he can help with the cost.

Instead of using a lawyer, try your local child support recovery office. The cost is usually only around $25, and they seem slow, but it will be a lot faster than 20 years.. It ususally takes only a few months. They will represent you, so you won't have to hire a lawyer, so it will also be much cheaper.

tell your lawyer if he does not start filing charges that your ex is evading court dates you will hire a different attorney, also contact your local human services office that is also in charge of welfare and such. they would have the phone number for child support services and they also can get involved because the government has more clout. they can make it that your ex will not receive 1 penny of his state tax returns, unable to file the kids on his returns and they can also go as far as suspending his license and garnish his paychecks. im guessing your ex is trying to get away with paying the bare minimum. some states go by the annual income in order to determine the amount of child support you would receive and i am sure that he makes more then enough money to pay; he does not want to share it with the kids. also he is most likely thinking that by avoiding the payment he figures that once the kids are grown up, he does not have to pay; not true since there is interest charges wracked up as well. good luck and stick it to him

Unfortunately my boss hired a lawyer to avoid paying past taxes and all they keep doing is post poning the date. Get advice from another lawyer if you can.

I'm sorry to say that if there was a way to stop it your lawyer would have figured it out by now.

My only question is, if he can afford a lawyer to continue postponing court, then why won't he pay child support?

well the real question is, are you doing OK without the child support or do you really need it to get by with providing for your child???
Because if your ex really does love the child then that person would want to pay child support, but honestly if your doing OK or even good without that money...sometimes there's nothing else to do but just leave it alone....because guilt really is the only way in these cases to get money out of people like that...

I only say this, because my family has gone through similar things and sometimes it's just not worth the fight to keep on trying to get money out of someone who wants to be selfish!

If this doesn't help you at all, I'm sorry but that's the only answer i have for you right now...
