Of the 50 million uninsured (if that is a correct number) many are insolvent and judgment proof so they are effectively "insured" by their local public hospital which is not permitted to turn them away 6,000in an emergency.

Much of the most expensive care is given to the elderly, who mostly have Medicare.

The problem is the middle classes -- a shrinking population over the past 6 years at least -- which, being uninsured and through a quirk in Medicare rules, is billed at far higher prices than the uninsured (who pay nothing even if not eligible for Medicaid because they have nothing to take) or the underinsured (who at least get the benefit of negotiated rates).

Americans, more than any other voters in a democracy, have a tendency to vote against their own broad interests and instead on the basis of peripheral hot-button issues that really have no effect upon them personally: abortion, gun control, gay marriage, flag burning, estate tax, school prayer . . . That being so, they get what they deserve.

The bigget surprise to me is that only 237,920 Americans had moved to Canada (out of an Canadian immigrant population of 5 million in 2001) .

Largely, there's no pressing need. Anyone can go to the emergency room to get treatment (even illegals). Every community I've ever lived in has had free or low-cost clinics for every-day injuries and sickness. The only real reason for insurance is to pay for long-term persistent problems (cancer, diabetes, etc.). These only affect a small amount of the population.

40 million do not have insurance, so? There are not people sick and dying on the street. Like I said, anyone can get treatment, whether or not they have insurance. So who cares if 40 million don't have insurance?

Choices. Choices. I have chosen to be uninsured because I want the money for other priorities. I bet most people who cannot afford insurance could eliminate some things from their budget. I used to sell in people's homes and always saw a big screen tv in ghetto homes.

You assume people have the right to have whatever they want. There are limited resources in a free society. Health insurance is not a right.

What about the tort reform? Trial lawyers pimp this sue everyone for every wrong you have ever had. We must reform laws so it is not so easy to sue. The laws as is make it so expensive to practice medicine. Most OBGYN's have a $100,000 bill for liability insurance. This is a great place to start.

Liberals do not actually want these reforms. They want another overly expensive government program that stinks. They want control over people's lives. Wake up people.

Worlds wealthiest???

I think your numbers are wrong. China has health care. Granted in some rural areas the Chinese Health Care system lacks the sophistication of Beijing. But they are doing a wonderful job.

As for universal coverage.

Cuba once on top is declining in human health services. Back when Russia pumped Million$ into Cuba they ranked in the top 10 Globally. Now they have slipped behind the Scandinavian, tour de force.

Because these same said Americans aren't smart enough to insure themselves...

Because lib-tard politicos promise these parasitic fools a venue to "free" healthcare but don't bother to detail who actually is going to pay for it...

How come these uninsured don't buy their own health insurance?

Could it be just another bad choice in the list of bad choices these uninsured have already made?

BTW what part of the US Constitution mandates federal interference in the health care business?

Looking at health care budgets in Canada, to try to cover those 50 million left out of the system for all kinds of reasons, if America went that route ... it soon would no longer be the world's wealthiest nation.

Why do we have the biggest economy gap between the rich and the poor since 75 years, why has the unemployee rate gone up, why are thousands of are troops dying in Iraq when we should have stayed in Afgan and finished the job, why are war lords now running the show in Afgan, why is there a patriot act that has destroyed many freedoms that we Americans must hold dear, who has a appox 36% approval rate in America? I think you know the answer.

Education is funded more by this President than any previous administration. Paying teacher more that can't even educate our kids today will not improve their skills. The elderly have Medicare, the poor have Medicaid. they are taken care of. Buy your own insurance. Most can afford it, they just don't want to stop eating out 5 nights a week.

Because providing healthcare is the responsibility of the person who needs it, NOT the responsibility of the government.

Those who are not insured, CHOOSE to be uninsured.
