AIDS is an acronym for auto-immune-disorder syndrome. People who have AIDS have contracted human immunodeificency virus (HIV) and the virus has progressed to the point where the body's natural built-in system for fighting off illness has been rendered useless. Most people who get AIDS actually die of pneumonia because their bodies can't fight the bacteria that causes it.
