For mens jeans, you're really not going to be successful shrinking them because its the thick jean material. You can throw them in the dryer all you want all its going to do is wear them out. Girls jeans today are made with more spandex like material that will shrink thats why girls are telling you to put them in the dryer.
If you are just trying to get the waist smaller, and if these are really good jeans and throwing the out is not an option take them to a seamstress to get them taken in. 20 bux tops.
But if they are just all around to baggy, sorry no hope for shrinking them. Because when you do put the in the dryer they may seem tighter, but when you walk around in them for the day, the fabric will loosen up again. Good luck!

Wash in really hot water and dry in a really hot dryer. This will shrink length too. Even better is to take them to the cleaners and have them laundry and starch them...that will shrink them at least a size, but will shrink the length too...beware.

Wash at 95 degrees Celsius. Then put them in the dryer for half an hour at the hottest temperature. That always does the trick for me.

Wash them hot and put them in the dryer. To keep the colour, add about half to a full cup a vinegar to the wash and be sure to put them inside out first.

Wash them in hot water, and dry them on the hottest setting possible on your dryer. However, this will also fade them...don't know if that matters or not!

Someone once told me to put the jeans on and sit in a freezing cold bath with them on!!!!!! Then get out the bath, if you even got in it in the first place, stand with them on for about 10minutes, take then off, put them on a boil wash, then a hot tumble dry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck xx
