One thing that previous responders have missed is that blood pressure fluctuates considerably -- readings taken even five minutes apart may differ markedly. You need to get a collection of readings, and then you will know a lot more about whetier to start on something like Lisinopril. (It works for me.)

I believe systolic is the measured pressure when your heart is contracting to pump the blood, and diastolic is the measure of the pressure when your heart is at rest. Of course all this happens in split seconds but thats basically what the blood pressure means. So if your systolic is higher than normal then your heart is using more pressure to contract. You dont necessarily need to have both above average in order to have high blood pressure. One or the other will do. Hope this helps you understand it a little better.

141 is hypertension...anything 130 and above IS hypertension.
The diastolic is indeed normal, diastolic is the measure of your blood pressure when the heart is at rest, between beats so to speak. This probably indicates that the hypertension is not due to volume overload, but more likely due to more essential causes such as hardening of the arteries or aging kidney function or aging liver function, increasing resistance in the vascular system to the flow of blood under pressure. You don't mention your age, but I would make an appointment with your doctor to discuss ways to treat this....over time, blood pressures such as yours create lasting damage and lead to untimely demise.

At 30, you definitely want to deal with this ASAP. it could be related to your weight, if it isn't in fact "mostly muscle". You are in the hypertension range. One possibility is that you may have increased blood pressure when you go to the doctor. Do you get anxious about going? Or really dislike going to the doctor? This could increase your blood pressure. If you have your blood pressure taken somewhere else, like a health fair or a pharmacy (many have free blood pressure monitoring) write it down and if it's significantly different than what the doctor is getting, you will know it's anxiety. If not, you need the doctor to help you lower your BP fast

It means that you have hypertension and need to have it treated. There are several drugs on the market that can do this but first, it might be better is you make a few life style changes, such as losing weight, stop smoking, cut down on alcohol etc. Try that first then go with the drugs if needed. Unfortunately, hypertension treatment will be a life long battle. Untreated hypertension can lead to a host of problems, including kidney and liver failure, increased risk of heart attack and strokes plus loss of libido and impotence.

Your systolic pressure is high by current standards. The values you report make me suspicious that you are getting too much salt in your diet. I suggest that you try to cut reduce your salt intake by 50% and see what this does for you. If this measure has no effect on your blood pressure see your physician.
