I knew, but I forget. I teach my Grandkids these things, and they teach me. I've always been amazed by History. Because I could not believe what happened in WWII, since about age nine, and I wanted to understand how so many people would have followed a lunatic like Hitler. You can just type WWII in on your browser address and find the answer. The thing is, it wasn't us who defeated him. We only came in on the tail end of it, as I understand it. The world looked the other way as much as possible. I think this is a lesson to learn about what is going on today. Although I don't like war, and don't know the answers. I think History is everything. We need to learn from it. It was other countries as well as the States, that FINALLY changed it. Funny how people don't care, till it hits their door step. We finance the same people we fight with later, and we cut child protection services here at home. I say take care of our Kids here First! When I was a kid, we had a summer programs at school every day, and Fri, and Sat. night gym at school. We were not on the streets. We were busy learning. Imagine that. Where is the tax money going? Besides war and feeding people we will fight with in another ten years? The rich get richer, and our men keep dying.

He was leader of Germany from 1933 to 1945.

The US was in WWII from the end of 1941 to April 1945.

WWII "started earlier" for many countries, especially if you count the ones the allies let him annex before the shots were actually fired.

Read up on Neville Chamberlain, and find that ridiculous picture of him waiving a piece of paper in the air.

One might say that overwhelming force and the will to use it ensured victory.

PS US troops are in Germany TO THIS DAY, so the period of our "military involvement" could be said to stretch from the declaration of hostilities in 1941 to at least 2006. We also supplied Britain before we actually entered the war.

The war began in 1939. The US didn't get in until after Germany declare war on us on December 11, 1941. The war was over in 1945. But it was a different enemy. They were at least brave enough to stand up and fight like soldiers. Not cowardly like today's terrorist who hide behind women and children. The German and the Japanese respected the lives of the innocent civilians. They were not targets.

Roughly 40 months. War was declared against the germans in about January 1942, and they surrendered on May 7th 1945.

4 years and several MILLION lives. And, much like the two recently deposed regimes, it was quite worth it.
