How about Yu Yu Hakusho? It's about as old as Dragon Ball but I like it tons more. Plus it's by the creator of Hunter X Hunter. Ok let me list some anime that in my opinion are see-worthy... 07 Ghost (if you are not completely opposed to religion-related anime and shounen/shoujo mix it's definitely for you) Chrome Shelled Regios (moving cities, strange monsters, an academy, a new strong guy, a principal who's a force of his own and many more characters with supernatural powers) D Gray Man (again somewhat religion-related but not that strongly. Bascially fantasy, action. Equipped with special weapons our heroes have to go on missions together and exorcise akuma) Eden of The East (it's a very odd anime but very unique and interesting) Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (another detective series. It's a bit bizarre since the cases might take place in the real world yet they take on a supernatural quality because of the demon Neuro's influence) Fruits Basket (nothing said, have-to-watch-anime from the shoujo/romance genre) Full Metal Alchemist (another unique world-creation along the lines of D Gray Man and 07 Ghost. This time alchemy is the center of battle strength, throw in two brothers on a mission and you get about a tenth of the whole story) Kuroshitsuji (not only for fangirls like some claim... it has nice animation nice music and an amazing anti-hero. You don't see much of those.) Macross F (if you are not opposed to JPop and like Mecha-battle related series give it a try) Natsume Yuujinchou (is a great mix of a calm yet action-filled anime. It's a bit hard to describe. Our hero is always chased by some demons, but there are no actual action scenes. His relationship to his new-found teacher Madara, a strong demon who plans to kill him anytime he let's down his guard, at least at the beginning, is very funny.) Nodame Cantabile (THE anime for music and comedy. It's about classical music though) Pandora Hearts (Until about episode 23 it follows the manga, afterwards it gets a bit disappointing... but good anime to watch anyway. Also shounen/shoujo mix) Saiunkoku Monogatari (shoujo, which means for girls but there are also guys who watch it. Fantasy, politics etc) Seirei no Moribito (one of the best fantasy/adventure/action anime in my opinion. You might not see that much action but it always is very well done) Sengoku Basara (if you need an acute action-fix) Spiral (if you want to watch intelligent people playing games) Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (it reminds me of so many anime I can't even count them... but it's a great series for that)

I usually watch comedy - a good laugh is always nice. Action is right behind it!
