$25.00 now is way better then problems later. Better option is a good mechanic who can look at "any" car and tell you in about 2 minutes if its ever been crunched. No matter how good the body work is. At the same time he can tell mechanically if it is running well, and most importantly from underneath, if there is frame damage or corrosion (this should be a huge fear). CarFax will most likely not tell you if that is a flood damaged car. (ever wonder what happened to almost all those cars if New Orleans). 99% did not go to the wreckers. They are resold at auction. As well ensure that there are no liens on the vehicle. The new buyer will owe for past debt.

I work for a car dealership. Usually if someone calls us, we will tell the the history we know. If the customer is really interested in this vehicle we will do a history report if they ask. So if its from a dealer and you tell them your interested, but won't buy unless you get a history report they should get one for you. They want to sell it to you and they prob won't say no. Just be persistant. If they want to sell it bad enough, they'll do it for you.

It's better to spend $25 and not get stuck with a problem. I bought carfax for a month and I got alot of info on cars I was considering which made me not buy them such as milage roll backs, inability to pass state inspection (I'm in Texas), salvage titles, and wrecks. I bought a car which had a clean bill of health. I also ran a carfax on my car which made it easier to sell

If you are buying it from a private owner, then you have to buy your own report. If its from a delearship or car lot they are required by law to show you any past history on the car.

Make the dealership pay for it. The dealership should be more then willing to pay for it if they want to sell you a car. Of course if your not working with a dealership then there isnt really a good option for getting it cheaper.
