Easy. Set y = 0 and let's see.

x^2 - 2x + 4 = 0

You can see that this has no real roots, and therefore does not cross the x-axis. The y-intercept [at (0, 4) ] is the only intercept.

This is an upward-opening parabola with its minimum point at (1, 3). It has another point at (2, 4). With those three points you can sketch the curve and see that it has no x-intercetps. Make sure it crosses the y-axis into the second quadrant at (0, 4)!
