I'm not sure how it works in every state, but in my state you go to the website for corrections and they have a link where you can find a specific inmate by their name or description.
I used it before to check when I heard a rumor that one of my friends was arrested and I found them. It just gives you a picture, description, what they did and their term. You can not contact them through this site.

I know the state of NJ website has a feature that will show you where any prisoner in the state is, but I don't know about other states. Try your states website.

You don't... They usually find you.
Is your boyfriend in jail AGAIN? If thats the case... He will find you eventually too. They always need stuff so anyone on the outside is a mark and target. Even people they haven't seen or spoken to in years.
Maybe, with any luck... he will try and find his ex girlfriend and leave you time to come to your senses...?

do what evilcharm said, if you are looking for a particular person - she is exactly right - I've used it before also
search for your state's department of corrections, in my state they also have a listing of all the facilities, with contact info.
