Here's the REAL deal on the Pontiac Grand Prix.
3800 engine is FABULOUS! And expect 30+ MPG on the highway, even at 75MPH. Unless it's supercharged, then expect 29! (Even less if you like feeling that power)
Nice, roomy car, and the real reson for the demise of the Bonneville. With the same drivetrain and approximate size of the Bonneville, the GP was thousands less.
Service issues are the same as any car out there (including Japanese cars). Change the oil, replace brake pads when necessary, drive it for 150,000 miles or more.
BTW, ignore the GM haters. If you want to see how trouble free those cars are, check out the Toyota and Honda areas here. If the cars are as good as they say, those sites should be free of posts, right?

I have an un-modded 2004 Grand Prix GT. The other night the highway wasn't busy and essentially clear. I decided to gun it and test for myself what the top speed of the car was. I was able to hit about 107-109 when the engine flat lined and my speed would not increase any more. I still have a few more runs to have at before I completely stick by this but that is what I hit when I tried at it.

One of my Daughters had a Grand Prix. The other Daughter has a Grand Am and still does.I do all the maintenance work on them
and I can tell you for a fact they are good dependable cars. I favor Dodge cars also. My Mother has a 2004 Dodge Stratus it is a good car too. Keep the oil changed between 3000 and 5000 miles and these cars will last you as long as you want them too last.

Ignore those idiots that hate American cars. They must really like to support Foreign militaries by buying those rice burning junkers. My Dad has a 2004 Grand Prix GTP with a super charger and it is awesome. Let a mechanic check it over and if it is good then enjoy that car.

I had one and it had a lot of electrical problems with the power windows and locks at first, then spread to the engine. It left me stalled a few times. If you are buying used, make sure you run a check on it (www.carfax.com) because you run the risk of buying someone else's problems. Make sure the warranty is something you can live with. With a 2 year old, I might think about getting something more economical IMO.

For the mean time, it is a good car but, later down in the future that car will be in the mechanic's shop because it is American made, if you want long lasting car and better gas mileage go with a Toyota or Honda.

i think you should keep looking, the g.p.'s looks nice, but thats a dated look, thats not really a great deal on it either, but most importantly, the quality of the grand ams & grand prixs leave alot to be desired.
