Is it normal and is it healthy for an 8½ week old baby girl to be sleeping for 10 hours straight???
I put my daughter down for bed last night at midnight, and here it is at 10:30am.
Is that normal?!?!

Katz - She originally fell asleep at 8pm last night, and woke up at 10 for a 5oz bottle. Then she wanted to play for a little bit, and then I gave her a bath, and cuddled with her, and she went to sleep at midnight.

Ten hours is fine, provided a few things. Remember, sleep is good, it's when they grow. You just want to make sure that she's eating enough, which you can tell by wet diapers -- about 6 or so a day, bowel movements -- difffers per child, so whatever is normal for her, maybe one every other day. Make sure she's not feverish. But I would wake her up at the 10 hr mark, gently. Just make her a little uncomfortable by getting her cooler, unswaddling her, filing her nails (that works for mine! He doesn't like getting his nails done!)
Other than that, 8 weeks is when many children start sleeping more. It's the 2 month hump -- they change a lot after 8 weeks. My son was sleeping about 8 hours at that point. And perhaps it's an old-wives-tale, but usually girls are better sleepers.
Congrats on your wee little one!

My daughter started to sleep for 8 to 10 hours straight at 10 weeks, so my guess is its normal. Count your blessings, we're the lucky ones:)

I have a one year old, and the experts say they need twelve to fourteen hours of sleep a day. You should sleep when the baby does and limit visitors. The nurse at the hospital told me that I could even put a sign on the door explaining the situation to help. Hope this helps!:)

As long as she is eating normal the rest of the day, it also depends on her day schedule, as far as naps go. My daughter started sleeping through the night at 9 weeks, starting with 6 hours. Maybe she needs the sleep. As long as she wakes up to eat, and she's not sick or anything, I wouldn't be concerned about it. But yes, like you, I'd be worrying about it too!

Enjoy the time to yourself to rest or get things done ! It is normal. I called my dr with the same concern and he told me to stop bragging about my baby LOL... As long as baby isn't lethargic etc she's fine. She'll wake to eat when she's ready. By the way, my son STOPPED sleeping that well so I'm thinking it probably won't last. Enjoy it while you've got it ! Good luck.

If you don't see any other problems, such as breathing problems while she is asleep, and her acting "funny" while she's awake i would just consider yourself lucky. My son was about 8 weeks when he started sleeping through the night. Usually, it's normal for babies to sleep that long.

You sure are lucky! My kids did the same thing by 3 months old. Why are you putting the baby down so late at night though?

Its fine...my son started doing that at 2-1/2 weeks...you like myself are a lucky woman...Don't worry if she was hungry she would be waking up. I would put my son down at 9pm and he would be up at 8-9 the next morning...people hated me!! Noew he's 2...he goes down at 8pm and is up by 8:30 the next morning...so keep your fingers crossed that she keeps doing it

Yes it is normal! Enjoy it while you can!!! My son was the same at that age. I would sometimes want to wake him up for company. Now, he's 18 months old and Oh how things have changed!!!
My advice to you is to enjoy it now and yes it is normal!
