In my child development course, our Professor showed us a video about a little girl...I believe in the 60's or 70's, and they called her a wild child I think. This was about four years ago so I don't remember much. I know she was abused from birth, and her parents had her chained to a chair or something. When they found her she didn't know how to talk, or do much else. I was just wondering does anyone remember seeing this? What was the little girl's name? Also, does anyone know if she is still living, and what became of her later development? I know the prognosis wasn't very good.

I am not sure if this is the same story or not, but I remember in the early seventies there was a man who was married to a woman and had a live in mistress and several children and the children were naked, and chained inside a fence like an animal. I have no idea what their names were though or whatever became of them. The children did not know how to talk and were like animals in the emotional and educational sense.

Her name was Genie, her parents kept her in a room tied to a chair and denied her human contact. When she was rescued they said she would never learn to speak after 12.
She learned afew words but was never able to formulate sentences.
Psychiatrists did many tests on her and in the end it was decided that she was being misused.
They put her in a home which was kept confidential so that she would not be bothered.

yeah, i know the case you mean. the kid was bandied about a lot in the name of research which was totally unethical but eventually she went back to her mother. This was after the death of the father, who apparently abused the mother as well as his daughter. Her speech etc improved but she never reached what you'd call normal. If i remember rightly she was called jeannie, you'd probably find nformation online it was a very famous research piece.

There are, unfortunately, more then one case of children like this. I think there is a book out "A Boy Called IT" that is similar.
