I know what it stands for, but I certainly don't understand the context sometimes. It's often used after sentences that are neither funny nor indicative of affection. I think a lot of people just put it at the end of everything.

I too have difficulty with some of the abbreviations used. One would think that this is not the place for text talk as there is plenty of space to write sentences out properly.
On a mobile the space is quite limited and text talk saves time and space.
No wonder the spelling on answers is often pretty awful.

More often that not when people use it, it stands for 'Laughing Out Loud' but it can also stand for 'Lots Of Love'.

LOL means laugh out loud. It also has an icon representing it on yahoo messenger, it means when u say something or someone says something that makes u burst into laughter, u call it LOL

It stands for LAUGH OUT LOUD. I didn't know what it was either so i had to ask my mate who always put it at the end of all her texts...my guess is she finds a lot of things funny...weird girl!
