We are celebrating our daughter's 13th birthday next month. We would like to have a small party with some of her friends but we want to keep the party at home. What are some fun, inexpensive activities for her and her friends that won't be considered lame. One thing my daughter wants is for everyone to dress up in their Halloween costumes (her favorite day) so I'd like to go woth that theme. I want to let them watch some scary movies but most are too gruesome - which I don't let my daughter watch but some of these other girls have.
Does anyone also have ideas for gift bags? Candy is the most obvious but I'd like to add something extra but age appropriate.

Some great ideas. I did ask her and she said she would be happy with movies, pizza and popcorn. I may throw some of these ideas in with it though.

i think your daughter is at the age where she would want you to ask her what she wants

I'm 13, so maybe I can help you out. Most of my friends just have casual parties, not really anything planned, just time to hang out with friends you normally would or wouldn't see. If it's around Halloween, we'll wear our costumes, and almost any time we'll watch a movie. We don't even worry about gift bags, we just have candy or snacks where everyone can get to them as needed. Of course, your daughter and her friends might like to have a planned party, but I'm afraid I can't help you if that's the case. I'm just saying this is what most kids our age like. âº

At 13 they'd probably love doing makeovers, and the gift bags could have some "girl stuff" in them for that use. If you shop at the dollar stores, they have a lot of cheap makeup, hair stuff, etc. They'd probably love doing each other up, but if you have a friend that likes doing makeup, they'd get a kick out of having a "professional" makeover. Then have a camera ready and take their pictures. A polaroid would be great because they'd have them right away, or a digital if you have the computer/printer. Then have a dinner party or snack party for them when they're all made up. Have her dad be the guest of honor. 13 year old girls get a kick out of dad joining in on anything. If you want to stay with the Halloween theme, you could have halloween makeup and have them do each other's faces real scary, black, purple fingernails, glitter for their faces, hair, etc.

When I was 14 I had a Mary-Kay makeup party. My Mom called the MAry-Kay Rep and explained that I was just starting to wear make-up and would like her to come out to show us girls how to wear it without looking like a hooker. I thought this was a great party and so did my friends, but to keep with the Halloween theme, have a custome party and hunted house

13 year olds like movies, makeovers, truth or dare, prank calling, gossiping. Pretty much just let them do what they please within reason. Sleepovers for just girls are fun. For gift bags you can put in some cheap makeup and hair supplies for girls. They will like that.
