...without being truly committed to one another? These teenagers who post these questions about how their boyfriends cheated while they were home raising the baby and having another baby with an ex-girlfriend and on and on... what on EARTH is going on?? I'm not naive - I'm sure this type of thing has gone on for a long time... but what gives??? Why are these girls so desperate to have children at such a young age? Don't they want lives of their own at least for a little while? Wouldn't they like to have a GOOD father for their children? I just can't wrap my brain around this.

This is an unbelievable situation, the girls are not using their heads. I have seen many instances where the cycle is repeating itself. Parents where young when they had children, the next generation just continues the cycle and don't think of the ramifications of their actions. They don't think about how they will support themselves or this child. It's a very sad state in this country.

It hasn't been going on for a long time. When it became apparent that having an out of wedlock baby was less of a shame than having an abortion or using birth contol, the rise of illigitimacy was astonishing. Teaching abstinence doesn't seem to work in areas where a young girls need for love of any sort is enormous. They seem to think that the baby is going to love them, they just don't understand that won't happen for a long, long time, and they aren't able to understand the ongoing sacrifice in time and fun that they will have to give up. Its common for girls not to even know what a good father is since their fathers were not usually around to show them, and a life on their own is more frightening than at least being able to say they have had a man interested in them. I wish we could educate the boys more too, to be more responsible and not create another generation of "Who You Baby Daddy?"

You are obviously not a teenager, but if you could just take yourself back for a minute. Remember what it was like to live for right now? As you get older you learn consequence, not until later do we understand that we have to take responsibility for our actions. I see young girls that find a boy, think they're in love and will do anything not to let that boy go. Sadly, for some unknown reason they think that by having a baby that boy will be bound to them for life. Not true. Poor poor babies.

most kids aren't even thinking about getting pregnant when it happens, but there are some who try to trap their bf's into staying which is the craziest thing I've ever heard of. I think this behavior stems from having poor or no male or female role models and even worse self images. and for most of this generation's kids, MTV and BET are their parents, instead of the humans that procreated and bore them... many of them don't realize the consequences until they want to go and hang out with their friends and realize that they can't because they don't have a babysitter...

Yes I find this very upsetting as this is becoming the in thing in teenagers falling pregnant. Some of them believe if they have a child with a guy this guy is going to belong to them. How wrong can they be. He is going to try his luck somewhere else and leave them with a illegitimate child. If you must sleep with someone please use a condom, Be wise and condomise.Where are the days of falling pregnant becomes a scandal.

baby girl, you are absolutely correct. we find big mama only 38. kids want to grow up so fast that they don't know that the best years of their lives is the childhood years. i can't speak for all, but parents need to teach or show their children how to live life first.

It is a little disturbing to me that these relationships are considered the norm to these people. I'm all for whatever relationship situation works for you, but these kinds of situations are clearly not working for them.

People need to have higher standards. You really can have something better.

I can't either. They weren't raised right - probably had teenage parents of their own.

The illegitimacy rate has leveled off, but is huge compared to even 30 years ago. We're on what, our third generation of semi-feral kids who don't have any guidance?

Sad.
