I see that Tate & Lyle Golden Syrup has been given the title of 'Britain's Oldest Brand'. It dates back to 1885.

I was wondering what do you think the world's oldest brand is?

I don't know where you get Tate & Lyle from.

Britains, and the worlds, oldest trademark is for Bass beer the trademark goes back to 1876, the beer to 1777.

There are many companies going back further but as far as I know this is the oldest BRAND, things like Aberdeen Porters aren't a brand as such.

As far as an English brand, Wedgwood Potteries was founded in 1759 by Josiah Wedgwood and has been in production without a break since then... and let's tell Tate & Lyle about it!

Of course Hudson Bay Company was formed by Royal Charter, in May, 1670 and is still a viable company operating now out of Canada.

Almost certain that the oldest brand will belong to a company in Europe... most likely a brewery!

For example, Stella Artois dates its foundation back to 1366 and has the name Artois associated with the brewery in 1708.

Hope this helps

P.S. who said Sears... is that a joke!?

Bass had a red triangle for its beer. This is at least 100 years old and features in a famous painting by Manet. Guess there will be older brands though. I think the Aberdeen Porters *** have something written on there vans that say founded 1498. Some Chinese pottery probably beats that.
