We have started receiving mail for a friend of mine - he didn't mention anything about it beforehand, and denies he did anything now. However it's a pretty big coincidence that a company would put my address with his name! Is it against the law to use another person's address?

We are sending it back to the company explaining he definitely doesn't live here and probably going to call them to find out the story behind (although am sure data protection will prevent anything being revealed).

I'm not sure Hun, but I think unless your "friend" is homeless you got to ask yourself why they have done this-
Sounds a little dodgy to me :o$

Don't open the mail because that IS illegal, and as you do not know why they are doing it, its probably best for you if it stays like that, that way you are not getting involved, to an extent.

Then just "Return to Sender" -tell your friend that you are not impressed and that they should get a PO BOX address in future!!!

I am really not sure if it is illegal. I suppose it depends why he is using your address. If it is just for general mail then there may be nothing legally you can do.

You get several options. Put the mail in the bin. Return to sender - not known at this address. Contact the sender and speak to them. Speak to your "friend" and tell him he is no longer your friend and ask him if he is commiting some type of fraud????? Tell him you are contacting everyone who mails him and if you have a new address for him, pass this on to the companies concerned.

What a pain.

You are doing the best thing in returning the mail. But also seek advice at your local sorting office and ask that no mail under that name be delivered to your address. There could be several reasons why he has done this - none of which are pleasant! Mainly to avoid any report for bad credit going against his address. However, it could be a genuine error on the part of the writer, but I don't see how..

Contact the local post office and report that someone has done this and they will stop it, it is illegal for you to put in a change of address for another person. Starting today write not at this address and return to sender on it until you can clear up this matter with the post office.

Yes, this is against the law, and it was done to me. So I simply got a "change of address card," filled it out, and I no longer received this persons mail. Before it went through, if their mail came to my address, I wrote on the envelope,"RETURN TO SENDER!" The whole process only takes about a week or so. Good luck

Gee Wiz they cannot be much of a friend that when asked they are propelled to lie to your face as you suggest while you shout cries of legality. Chill out m' lady, take it as a joke there probably a loving reason why they have done this. Maybe they have a childish e-mail which does not sound professional maybe a joke went too far? I bet your bottom dollar if they are a friend the reason will be quite plutonic & what's a few random e-mails amongst friends?

I doubt it is a crime unless your friend is using the postal service to carry out some other crime (like perhaps harassment). You should know that non-direct solicitations do often get mixed up and people who may appear on one document may get mail for each other. Like if you go buy something on-line and include both names or share an apartment even. I have access to one database for creditors and it is scary not only how much information they have (like addresses going back twenty years), but also how it is mixed with misinformation.

So one question I actual have is that this, you mentioned you despatched the documents to your self, appropriate? So did you employ your guy or woman very own digital mail handle to try this, if so as that should describe how he study your emails, you digital mail and password have been logged by utilising the artwork laptop. If that's what took place it somewhat is a very iffy concern, undecided in case you're able to do something as you logged on on your guy or woman digital mail, on a similar time as confident you assert your boss gave you permission to deliver them to your self, did he understand you have been sending it with a private digital mail, if not he might have seen the digital mail logged, questioned why there became right into a private digital mail in the device, and examine to work out what you have been doing with it on corporation time. I dont understand what else to assert. another element, in case you used your artwork digital mail to deliver the message bearing directly to the hot activity, he has each appropriate to study it, whether you despatched the message from homestead.

When the mail comes just write on the envelope "Not known at this address- return to sender" and it will all be sent back to the company.

It doesn't even sound illegal. It sounds petty. If you don't want the stuff coming to your house send it back or put in a return of address forwarding it to your "friend's" real address.
