I can't site my source but I read somewhere that the average time from conviction through the appeals process and finally to the chair is about eight years.

It can take years. My nephew was beaten to death by his father over 4 years ago. He plead guilty and was sentenced to 15 years to life.
He has been appealing his case because he feels his admissions tape should not have been allowed to be entered as evidence and should be thrown out.
Even though the trial never went to a jury and noone heard the tape.
He also appealed once saying he was forced to confess. That appeal was denied.
It just depends on how many different things they can appeal for and the lawyer will try everything.

It will end, just takes TOO long (in my opinion)

there was a recent conviction in our area, they said appeals may take 5-7 years before execution takes place.
