It is routine to get those done. Murmurs run in my family and my two daughters have murmur. Its is a small murmur they both have but older daughter scince 1 month old has gone for ekg and other test just to follow it and make sure it doesnt get worse in staed of staying the same or getting smaller. it is a precaution to be sure nothing is wrong. and the test does not hurt the baby at all. one is a few stckers on the chest with a machine attached to the stickers for a min and another is an ultrasound of the heart. hope all goes well

Heart murmurs are very common. I had one as an infant, and I haven't been an infant in about fifty years, so it's possible to grow up normally (well, phyiscally anyway :-).
What it is: when the valves in the heart close, sometimes a small amount of blood leaks back the "wrong" way, causing what is called a murmur. Nearly all of these are caused by the fact that the bay is growing and they are completely harmless. However, your doctor is just being careful to make sure that this is all that's going on with your baby.
An echocardiogram is basically the same thing as the sonograms or ultrasounds you probably had when pregnant. It's just a way of looking into the body to see what's going on. As I said, it's almost certainly just the typical baby murmur.
And if that's all it is, it's nice to know you've got a thorough, careful doctor.

My son had a heart murmur. I also didn't think anything of it. He was just a day old when the cardiologist was giving him an eco -cardiogram, I was told he had 3 little holes in his heart and that it was normal and they would later close up.
He had a followup after 2 months of age and 2 of the 3 holes had closed.
He has a followup appointment in 2 months, at 1 year of age.
The cardiologist has assured me it is normal for some babies to have these holes that have not closed when born. Don't stress out about it, he will be just fine.

Yes, my husband had a murmer when he was a baby and he is fine now. Also my son is one year old. When he was about four months old, he had a heart murmer. He is doing great now and has no sign of the murmer. I would get it checked out, but don't worry too much!

My son has a heart murmur. He had an eco cardiogram done to see what type it is. He has the type that does not require him to be put on meds before any dental cleaning and or dental work. His doctor said that by the time he is in his teens the hole should close up. Don t freak out, get the test done and find out what type your child has.

It is somewhat common for chidren to have heart abnormalities such as murmers, but in most cases tend not to be serious and can dissapear s your child gets older. The cardiogram is just an extra precaution that your physician is taking. Better safe than sorry. And be thankful that your physician is thorough.

I am sure the doctor is just being safe (I had to get a bunch of tests done because of the same type of thing) -- otherwise, without tests, he can't just guess there are no other problems. They have to be really careful and not miss anything anymore or it's a lawsuit for them. He found something easily detectable but he now needs to see if there is more to it or not. As you know.....murmers are fairly common. But as you also know, if he misses anything, he can get sued.

Many times a baby with a murmer will grow out of it and many times it's nothing to worry about at all.

The pediatrician told us that she heard a murmur on my brand new baby while still in the hospital. We had an echocardiogram in the hospital and then we had to follow up with the cardiologist in a month for another one and everything was fine. Your doctor is just being thorough- be grateful for that.

It is nothing to worry about my son had a lot of them and had a Apnea Bacardi monitor that made a loud noise when his heart skipped a beat. Most children outgrow these. Just do what the doctor tells you to.
