I remember my first visit to the gyno... felt the fear when I pulled into the parking lot... but it was fine take a shower & try to relax , its not like ob/gyn is your fav place to go but you will soon learn they are very respectful ( if you have a good one like I did ) & they are very professional ..... just relax & try to write down any questions you want to ask him/her that way if your nerves dont go away you dont forget anything... just relax it'll be fine ... good luck & congrats on the baby

Wow this is your first time?! Well I dont think they will care if you do or dont shave. Just take a shower and shave your underarms and legs. On a first visit sometimes they will check your boobies and you'll need to lift your arm over your head. (just checking for lumps) And they are right there at your legs, dont want to prick them with spiky hairs. But like I said about the shaving or not, they wont care either way. It's normal to be nervous the first time you go. But towards the end of your pregnancy, it will be a breeze!! You'll hope on the table and spread them with no worries. :) Everything will be fine. You'll get to see your baby soon too, thats always neat!

Nothing except be clean. Normal showering is fine. I wouldn't bother shaving, maybe trim if you are that worried about it. Not everyone shaves, I'm sure a lot of people go in "au naturel." It's the way we are, there's no point in being embarrased about it. They see it all. They're not there to judge you on your grooming habits. They see you for your health. And trust me, being pregnant, you learn to just go with the flow, and sometimes the embarassment of things just goes right out the window.

Plus, being your first visit, the doctor should explain everything to you about what is going to happen, and what they are going to do. Mine did. She explained everything in detail, and they will try to make you feel comfortable. Don't be afraid to ask questions, either. No matter how stupid you think it is, go ahead. Nothing is hurt by asking if you are wondering about something.

Just make sure you're clean down there. I wouldn't shave completely, but I would trim up a little bit. I always wear something comfortable. Most important- DON'T PEE before you go. If you have to pee, hold it!! They're gonna have to have a urine sample. I always tried to do that when I went for my prenatal appointments (although later on in my pregnancy, I didn't have to worry about holding it- I could pee on command..lol!) This may be TMI and a little gross, but I'd wear a panty liner. The lubricant they use to examine you and do your first ultrasound (which will most likely be a transvaginal ultrasound) is really slippery, and I always feel gross after I leave the OBGYN. Good luck!

There is no need to shave the nether-region when going to the doctor. My doctor actually suggested I don't. The pubic hairs are like the hairs in your nose, they keep away things that my cause infection, just keep the area clean with soap and water. They may give you an exam, but don't worry some doctors don't. If they give you a papsmear there may be some light blood spotting, but nothing to worry about.

The OB has seen it all...groomed, ungroomed, shaved in all configurations, dirty, clean, messy, STDs, etc....So, do what will make you feel most comfortable and least embarrassed. I usually try to shave my bikini line and take my shower that morning instead of evening. But they're not there to judge your grooming habits...they're there to get in, get the samples they need, view the parts they need to check, and get out. Don't worry about it, I always tell myself he sees this kind of thing all day every day for years. There's nothing special about my parts to make them memorable...so it's just another exam to him. The only thing that might happen that is different from a regular yearly exam is that if you are not very far along in your pregnancy you might get a trans-vaginal ultrasound. This is where they put a long, skinny probe in you to do the ultrasound. However, if you are far enough along in your pregnancy they will just do a normal ultrasound on the outside of your belly.

just take a bath or shower before. You can shave your bikini line if you want, don't have to. You can cut your hair back if you want, don't have to. Just relax as much as you can while they are prodding and doing the pelvic exam. If you tense up, it will be more uncomfortable, But it is hard not to. You can leave your sock on and I always do, cuz it's cold enough in there already.

Drink lots of water. They don't like to find a lot of protein in your urine and they will probably do a pap. Also some blood work so make sure that you eat something so that you don't get woozy.

No, you don't need to shave. I promise that if you try to relax during the exam, it's really not that bad. Just keep your muscles realaxed.

relax no you dont have to do anything but go and relax yourself they will probably do a pap on you to make sure you dont have any infections or anything to harm the baby as you give birth but they probably wont check you anymore until your last few weeks to see if you dialated any.
