I would definately go for www.play.com When ever I want a DVD that I can't find in the stores I look there.

Have you tried going to EBAY?
They have all kinds of junk. Stuff you wouldnt even think still existed. If you can't find it up for sale right now you can put in a WANT IT NOW request and anyone who may have it will contact you.

Film are being "digitally remastered" and put on DVD all the time. Check fansites

Go to half.com, it's part of E-bay but great deals and lot's of older dvd's etc
