I started watching 3 kids (3, 2, and 1years old) I first started the rate at $20 a day for all 3 kids (the parents were struggling) Now the parents are getting assistance from the state to pay for the child care, the state will pay me $10.45 a day per kid per day. I will recieve payment once a month, but I also have to file taxes on this!!! Is it worth it??? Or should I put in my notice, if so how do I approach them on this subject??

Oh and by the way I have 2 kids of my own, one in school and a 2 year old. I told the parents of these kids to provide meals, they are here for breakfast and lunch...half the time she only sends cereal, no milk or anything for lunch. I also potty trained the 2 oldest in a week they were in diapers when they came here. And my house is always TRASHED, I just want to know if it's worth the time and energy. One more thing the children are my 3rd cousins so I will see these people again and I don't want any hard feelings!

I don't see how you can possibly make money even at the new rate. Figure out what you are getting paid per hour after paying for the kids meals etc-show this number to the parents-then request at least minimum wage after expenses.

I would say it depends on how much tax they take out of it but i dont think it is really worth $30 a day i understand that the family is struggling but at the same time between the government the family they should be paying you more. i occasionally Nanny for a family who pays me $50 a day for Two kids that are Almost two and for you to have three all under 3 then wow you have your hands full! I guess the question would be to you how much do you rely on this money and can you find a replacement job easily and if you can then maybe you should go somewhere else where you are paid more but give the family plenty of time to find a replacement! That would be my advice but like i said it is really up to you. Good Luck and God Bless!

Whether it is worth it depends on what your goal is.

Is it to help your family? To make a profit? To have companionship for your 2 year old?

For example, I do a lot to help my family and I expect nothing in return other than knowing that the kids are safe, well fed, and thriving and I contribute to that. The challenge in my case is balancing this relationship so that no one takes advantage of me--family does that though not always on purpose. I do say "no" and "help" when I have to and I am not shy about asking for money--afterall, these are not my children and I am not responsible for paying for everything.

Decide what your desired goal is and then weigh the pros and cons.

Well, you will be making more,so it will make the taxes worth it,I suppose. It sounds like you want out.To approach the subject, just be honest-to a point.Tell them that you don't think you can handle the hassle of taxes and having to have your home up to inspection, which I'm sure they will do periodically. Also,to my knowledge, you have to be certified in all the safety and cpr stuff.I wouldn't want to do it,myself.Just make it clear that it's time for you to move on,and assure them that you don't want hard feelings. You have decide, then stick with it.You run the risk of offending people any time you deal with them,so never use that as an excuse to make yourself miserable.
