The water could be well water. That 'egg' scent is phosphorus and iron. She can put a 2000 flushes bleach tablet in the water tank on the comode. as for the rest of the bath, how about an auto scenter? they have them in the air freshener isle. It won't hurt her or you, but it does smell terrible. I know.

well water can give off a Oder that can be controlled with a water softener filter, city water sometimes smells of chlorine and sulfur, try running your water at a faucet for about 10 minutes to flush the pipes, galvanized pipes hold sediment, if its only the toilet water, if its on a septic system odors can come back to the system if not vented properlp, a plumber can help with all these situations, good luck

It may not be that she does not clean properly . The water itself could be the culprit . Does she have well-water or city-water ? Well-water can contain hydrogen-sulfide . It can stink so incredibly bad when you open the faucet that you feel like gagging . In either case a water-softener would make it a lot better .
I don't think it is a bacterial thing since it is also in the shower .

Is the water smelly in any other part of the house?
Maybe those pipes are dirty or some gases (from the pipes) are not venting properly. Your friend should call a plumber and at least have some consulting done.

You may want to check for dead animals in the tank. This has happened to me after I used rat poison to get rid of some rats. Apparently, the poison makes them seek out water before they die. If the water coming out of the shower smells bad, it may be the quality of the water source. Is this well water or city water? You may need to install some kind of water purifier or filter.

Does your friend live in an area with hardwater, maybe wall water? If so this could be the cause. If this is the case then a water softner would help with the smell.

might be her pipes or might be her water...i live in kissimmee fla and the water here is terrible....stinks and stains toilet and shower.....if the landlord would get a good filter it would help, but i know that it would be very expensive for the whole house, so we use a faucet filter for coffee, cooking, etc....
