My immediate thought was photosynthesis, but surely that only makes carbohydrates. Even though carbohydrates do give plants the energy to grow, i don't think thats the full answer. Does anyone know the name of the whole process or is there something else completely? I've searched everywhere trying to find an answer!

Yes, it is photosynthesis. Plant tissue is mostly carbohydrates. Cell division depends on nourishment from these carbohydrates.

Photosynthesis is used to make sugars from light energy, water and carbon dioxide.

Metabolism is the processes by which sugars are made into the structures of pland tissues.

Surveyor is right, I mean if it was not from the sunlight where the heck would they get so much substance to make green leafy things which are seen best on our table.
