I mean, what is going through their heads when they are doing this double take at a woman who is 9 months pregnant - have they just never seen a woman THAT prego before or what? And why must they have the sound effect that goes with it....'whoaa!'? Or the comments you hear as you walk away...'Did you see that belly? OH MY GOD!'.
Of all the things to flip over - why must it be a woman who is carrying a FREAKING CHILD in her belly? Did you expect it to be this cute petite little thing?

I see a couple of you been there - done that. This is my 2nd kid, and while I will freely admit to be hormonal, it is a peeve of mine that people stare. I just think if you are going to do it - try to be more discreet and don't let your eyes bug out of your head. Its great that you think its such a wonderful thing, but a pregnant woman is already on the self-concious side. Our bodies are being stretched beyond what is normal, we can't walk normally, and you have this belly hanging out there. Yes, its exciting to be able to give birth to a child, and I think about the women I know that are unable to have children - and I'm gratefull.
That still doesn't mean I want people staring at me lol.
And Vicky - lmfao!! I think you know where I'm comin from here. Thanks!

People are just..weird sometimes. also, some people have a hard time figuring out if your pregnant or not!
And others..feel for you, because, they were that huge once.
Be proud of your pregnancy, just shrug off those comments!

I think you have had some very good answers so far & I have to agree with most of them some ppl stare in envy wishing they could have a baby , some stare in remembrance , I sometimes see an expectant Mommy & I think how wonderful it was when I was pregnant ( I have 4 & had a tubal cant have more ) & the rude ppl well they might just be jealous ...lol... maybe their wives ( if its a man ) didnt look good preg so they make jokes about everyone , & if its a woman maybe she is wishing she looked as wonderful as you while she was feeling huge ... I felt huge I had big babies but I loved it 100% ( annoying ppl I chewed up & spit out & blamed it on the hormones...lol)

Pregnant women are beautiful. I think that there is probably a biological basis for people enjoying the sight of a pregnant woman. It is not right to stare, and I imagion that you feel a certain loss of privacy. Probably people will want to see your baby after it leaves your body also. Although I am a father and not a mother (big difference, I know), having children has been one of the most rewarding parts of living.

I must admit I do that; especially since I've been through it before. I think it's wonderful to see and it makes me remember the excitment I had waiting for my daughter to be born.

I can't imagine anyone having ill thoughts about the size of the baby or belly. Anyone with half a clue should get that ... and anyone who doesn't get that are probably the ones walking by pretending not to notice.

I know exactly what you mean... I am 31 weeks preggo and Yesterday this lady was staring at me and she asked me how much babies do I have in my stomach. I was in shock, so I told her 5 and she said Oh My God!!! I just had to be sarcastic... Then I told her that it was only 1 and she said that I was extremely huge to be having 1 child. I was so pissed that dump B*tch!!!!!

How could people be so rude, the thing is she was fat as hell and I am just belly... So I know that if she was to have a child it would be a disaster.. People are totally screwed up, why can't they just shut they mouth if they do not have anything nice to say....

People are naturally curious, and will want to "check out" anything that seems out of the ordinary. Since many of us do not see a pregnant woman every day, that curiosity might come through as staring. In the US, staring is considered rude as a matter of etiquette; in other countries, it may not be considered rude.
A tactful US resident should simply smile/nod if "caught" staring, if only to pretend that you happened to look over while they were greeting you. That same tactful person knows to avoid commentary.

They are just trying to work out whether to give you the benefit of the doubt or are you just FAT! Seriously for 2 years after the birth of my child I felt a connection with all people with child or young children, and probably looked like a simpleton as I watched and smiled
,and Im a male.

I'll try not to stare but can I at least still smile. It's just the neatness that you will have a child and the wondering about how far along you are. It's a wonderful thing happening to you. You shouldn't be offended. Relax and enjoy the attention.

Why don't you just enjoy being pregnant and not worry about everyone else's take on it? Some people I am sure are just thinking that you look so cute pregnant and are remembering when they were pregnant or can't wait to become pregnant. For the comments; just ignore those.

LOL--my husband caught me staring the other day. I really try not to. I think pregnancy is beautiful and I can't stop myself from checking out other bellies. I miss being pregnant and I'm envious to those who are. I love my son--but I still miss feeling the baby kick and being able to eat off my belly. I'm sorry people stare but maybe they are staring because they think you are beautiful.
