It's not a hypothetical.

As for America, we pursue stupidity - or, we at least favor it.
Hence our selection of Bush and his gang of moral, social, and political deviants, and our dislike and mistrust of education, intellectuals, and artists - even though that describes our fonding fathers.

Galileo said, "Mathematics is the language with which God wrote the Universe."

Americans do not speak Gods language - hence our ranking as the most scientifically illiterate people in the developed world and even some of undeveloped world - and our love of pathetic huckster god-worshipers like Falwell and Robertson.

As for you question directly - you cannot stop them - you need to worry about them dragging you over the edge with them.

Conservatives are stampeding America into the abyss.

The are more stupid and cowardly than the terrorists who hate us and they will continue to loose as they have been for the past six years.

Maybe Atheists lead good lives (after all, our prisons are filled with Christians, not Atheists) because they are decent by nature and don't need to be scared into being good, while Christians are born evil and need to be intimidated into acting human.

America's problem is conservatives without souls. They don't care about human suffering and death - including Americans.

You can recognize them, because they are the one's waving flags as far away from the fight as they can get.

If you watched people march side by side one after the other off the edge of eternity into a burning lake of fire and brimstone, would you try to stop them?
Of course you would! Especially if some were people you cared about.
Your analogy is flawed though. If Christians are wrong and there's no afterlife, then there's no consequences to living a good, moral life as a Christian. The world was better for it.
But if you're wrong on the other hand...

Life is a blessing that has been bestowed upon us by the Almighty. It is precious, and must be preserved. It should not matter who is diving off the cliffs...to know that someone has died... to know that you could have saved a life...is too much to bear on the human soul. Wouldn't it be better to try to save a life, then to have nightmares forever plummet in your dreams?

That reminds me of a part in a book/movie by Stephen King. Storm of the century I think it was called. I would try to stop them. Maybe I could snap them back into sanity

Actually I believe that they should keep doing it because this is how all the rest of the religious world thinks. That you must die to gain anything in this world. Which technically you wouldn't gain anything in this world. If they believe this let them stay stupid. They must learn on their own like a child does, as we all do. Learn from our mistakes.

I am afraid that I am not a very good bystander when it comes to witnessing extreme acts. I suppose if I were watching Osama Bin Laden & his crew do something like that, then I would think twice before intervening.

Interesting how you believe that you are qualified to judge others today as religous nuts and/or stupid. Do you think that it's possible your delusion may be the belief that you are just so much more intelligent than everyone else?

No, I probably wouldn't try to stop them.

If they were you and your family, no. Anyone else, yes. But your continuing anti-Chriatian, anti-religion rants are tiring. We really need yahoo to put an ignore so that people can block the more idiotic posters like you.
