Is there a quick way in Windows XP to rename a large number of files in a folder at once. I have a large number of files and I want to add the same prefix to each of the filenames so I can identify them as belonging to a specific project. For example: files 123, 456, 789 would become AB123, AB456, AB789. Renaming each file individually will take forever!
Thank you.

Hi, just want to add this clarification: I need to keep the original filename. I want to add a prefix to all the existing filenames. Thanks.

There are shareware and freeware that allow bulk renaming of files in folders. I use the Bulk Rename Utility.

WindowsXP Tips

Using the Windows Explorer, select all the files you want to rename
Press F2 or right click and select Rename
Enter the prefix for the name you want (e.g. Newname)
This will automatically rename the rest of the files Newname (1).jpg, Newname (2).jpg etc.
Make sure you include the extension if you have the Explorer configured to show them.

in case you do not have any records on the device you should keep, then only use the gadget restore CD or partition to wipe and reinstall abode windows XP and start up over. in case you do choose records off of the computing gadget, then I advise taking it in to a service center for someone to retrieve that records and then reinstall your operating gadget.
