AVG is ok. ZoneAlarm is a firewall, also good.

AVG is a good anti-virus program. Have used for years.
Zone Alarm is not an anti-virus. It is a firewall. You do need it to prevent attacks over the network at your PC.
You should also have a couple anti-spyware programs, and run them about once a week. Recomment Ad-Aware and Skybot Seek&Destroy. Can get both free at download.com.
Three different problems that you need to have covered with the three different types of programs.

AVG - Free antivirus. One of the better antivirus applications on the net. According to www.top10reviews.com, it is ranked 8th best antivirus. I am using Bitdefender, but I don't see any real benefits--I am considering switching over to Kaspersky.
Zone Alarm - Poor antivirus, excellent firewall--perhaps the best firewall.

Zone alarm have several options a free one giving basic support
or the latest the suite which covers all three Firewall, Virus Checker and Spy checker and it updates itself
