Over 2700 young men, many younger than 20, have had there lives ended in Iraq.
Many more have been severely wounded.
Many more than that have been damaged psychologically so as to ruin their lives.
No plan has ever been put forth.
What is it in this chaos, with little or no planning and hazy goals, that justifies this?
Doesn't their ultimate sacrifice obligate the Bush Administration to have an actual plan for Iraq?
Or is it just another day, another "misfortune" ?

A lot more than the life of an equivalent British soldier, whose family is likely to be left destitute and on charity and public benefit.

The family of a deceased American soldier at least gets generous life insurance and a modest pension.

The family of a war-injured veteran in either case is given almost nothing except the terrible burden of care, forever. VA hospitals have closed and what's left have been impoverished, save for the model hospitals in Maryland and Texas.

First of all, I think the plan is (and has been all along) to remove Saddam Hussien from power (done), free the Iraqi people (done), help them form a democratic government so they can govern themselves (almost done), and train them to police themselves & defend their own country (okay, still working on that one).
As far as the value of the life of anyone killed in combat, it is beyond measure. They all knew the risks (or reasonably should have) before even enlisting (This is an all volunteer force, there is no draft). I served proudly during a relatively peaceful period, but spent 2 years in W. Germany during the Cold War, at a site that was quite close to the E. German border & more Warsaw Pact tanks than you could swing a stick at. Did I know the risks? You bet I did. Would I have made the ultimate sacrifice if that is what I was called to do? No doubt I would have. Would I do it over again knowing what I know now? Without hesitation. The only thing stopping me is that I am now "too old".
And yes, the V.A. hospitals are full of wounded folks from over there, as well as the first Gulf War, Bosnia, Vietnam, Korea, World War II, etc. I dare say that most of them would still enlist if they had to do it over again.
I, for one, sleep better at night knowing that we have the best trained, best equipped military in the world protecting us & our freedom; Including the freedom to protest the fact that they are over there.
God bless our military, because if it wasn't for them, America would get it's a** kicked.

If they live the best the VA can give if they die the best burial they can get. but a s a solder you realize the fact you may die or be dismembered, 1 thing you need to understand when you are a solder there is no politics just duty... i did my duty ...i am disabled... and I am proud to have served my country, BUT now i am a citizen and i do not agree with our current politics and would gladly vote to get changes made..also i would like to say though i don't support my current leaders ideas, i do support our troops 100% God bless us, because no one else will!

Human history is full of old men sending young men to death or horrendous disfigurement.

In this day and age, with technology so advanced, is it now time for the young men to stay at home and for older men to go into battle?

With an aging population, and more anger amongst the elder generation, is it now time to send them into battle by souping up their electric wheelchairs, loading their shopping baskets with Semtex and pointing them towards suspected terrorist safe houses?

There is no way to put a Value on a life. Do remember the enemy has no moral belief life has value at all. They believe they have the right to eliminate all who are not like them or will not be convert to their way of living, believing etc.
The U.S.A's military is a standing volunteered one. These young men & women are all that is standing between freedom & total control by people who would kill you for your beliefs or lack of beliefs.
How are you treating these young people you are talking about? No matter what you think of Bush & his policies the bottomline here is are you doing something to relieve these brave soldeirs of their burdens they have taken on for us. Or is this just a piss & moan about Bush.
