Norton antivirus, Symantec corporate, AVG Guard, McCafee, PC - Cillin, Panda and Avast are not very safe programs if you like keeping your personal life personal. Hackers often create hybrids of existing virus' in order to get around them. Kaspersky does a much more thorough scan of files and can detect a hybrid virus without having to update definitions. No other scanner strikes fear in the heart of hackers like Kaspersky. Not to say that it is invulnerable but most hackers wont waste there time when there are far easier scanners to spoof.
For example, hackers can alter a backdoor to get past mcafee or norton in about 15 mins tops. Most AV's tag the top half of a remote server, and only one or two individual bytes. Easy to narrow down, however Kaspersky Tags whole strings, and does multiple strings from top , middle and bottom. Making both half's detected when hackers hex edit them.
Kaspersky Labs Av products have unique ability and heuristics scanning to detect files even without having a signature for them, and not tag innocent files. Hackers can hex edit a server past kaspersky and it might tag it as a modified server then delete it while sending a copy to the kas lab for a human to review the application and 30 minutes later the world has tags for the undetected remote server.
I dont work for Kaspersky, I am a tech support specialist.
