I can't think of anything dangerous about it- it shouldn't be allergenic or toxic. However, remember something, you are building your babies taste buds now. If a baby will eat food without extra sugar or salt give it to them that way. They will enjoy the flavor of the food and never miss the sugar or salt and will grow up not needing these unhealthy things to enjoy food. One warning though, NEVER HONEY, honey contains all kinds of bacteria that is excellent for adults and can be lethal for a baby under a year.

Actually Karo syrup can act as a laxative for infants. This is what the pediatrician told me to give my baby when he was very constipated.

A long time ago Karo syrup was an ingredient in home-made baby formula along with evaporated milk. My mother and my sister both made baby formula this way--as did all mothers then who did not breast feed. We all turned out OK, and actually graduated from college and got good jobs!

Back in the "old days" parents gave Karo Syrup to their children to help soothe colic and constipation issues. The following website can help you with some facts/myths.

Yes this is safe in small doses. (1-2 tsp. in 8 oz. of water) This is how the docter told me to dilute it for my first baby. She would break out in sweats from straining so hard. Also, prune juice, warm baths, and finally rectal stimulation work well.( I know this sounds gross but a little petrolium jelly on a rectal thermometer gently inserted into the rectum about a 1/4 inch)( This is the last step doctor's give before laxitives are prescribed)

My daughters Doc only reccomends it as a last resort. It's not good for them. As far as dangerous or safe...I don't think it's dangerous but I don't think it's safe either. I've never given it to my daughter.

Not bad. I have used it on both of my kids in emergency situations like if they were straining or very cranky. You may want to focus on regular bowel movement for your baby. Try giving the baby diluted apple prune juice, mixing half and half on a daily basis.
