Would you have a problem with a pre operation transsexual using the ladies toilet? The reason I ask is that a man where I work came in one day as a woman. 'She' had to live as a woman for 1 year before being allowed to have the operation. During this time she wished to use the female toilets, as you would expect. However quite a few of the women in the building objected so in the end she was restricted to using certain ones. Is this right and would you have objected. I couldn't see the problem but as it didn't really affect me I wanted to try and gets a womans perspective. Ladies only please.

Just to clarify. This was not some perv looking for an excuse to use the ladies toilet for a year. He had already started taking hormone tablets so his facial hair started to disappear and his body began to change in other ways. This was quite a traumatic thing for him to do so I doubt anyone would do it unless they were serious.

Thanks for all the responses.
It appears that most women wouldn't have a problem. I thought that would be the case

I wouldn't have any problem at all with this. It's not like women's rooms have urinals where you all go together like in men's rooms. You go into the stall and close the door and you have privacy. I wouldn't even have a problem with co-ed bathrooms as long as there were no urinals, except for the embarrassment issue when defecating. That and the fact that men seem to be much more amused with thier bodily functions than women.

I certainly wouldn't have a problem with it. Surely the whole point is he wanted to be a women and when he finally has the operation he will be a women and will therefore use the ladies toilets?
Its ridiculous that anyone should object, this person has the right to live however they choose, and if its that a man decides to have an operation to be a women and he has to go through the all the other processes that go with it then so be it.
The people that complained should be ashamed of themselves for making the person feel like such an outcast.

This creates discomfort because you have worked with him, and know his present gender.
Had he simply shown up as a new employee, dressed as a woman - chances are, unless he is very masculine looking - no one would even know.
This is a touchy subject - and as you can see from the previous responses - the views are split. The best solution for this would be for your employer to designate a specific unisex toilet. In an existing building, though - this is sometimes impossible. This leaves your co-worker no other alternative than to use the ladies restroom.

I don't think I would have a problem with it. It's not like it's just some creep who wants to sneak a peek at the women in there. If he is actually living his life as a woman then I think she should be allowed to include visiting the "Ladies Room" as a part of that. How can you live your life completely as a woman if you're still using the mens room? I can, however, understand how some people might be uncomfortable with it.

I would have no problem with a pre-op transsexual using the same toilets as me. If they were living their life as a woman, then they should use the ladies toilets.
I don't really see any issues of privacy, toilets are in cubicles and therefore are private.
Its a shame that people let there prejudices get in the way of doing the right thing.

I wouldn't be worried about it, if I knew the circumstances. I would hope this person concerned carries a letter around detailing the reason. Anyone mature enough would be able to understand. Discretion is the key.
Naturally I understand some of the other women's views, as they may feel its voyeuristic. A way for a man to get an easy way into the ladies toilets.
Only other way is disabled ones that are unisex. That is a last resort, you don't want to be ostracised.

Tough one! I dont think to be honest it would bother me a I am quite open to the idea people do what they want in this life within reason!
I can see tho why some women would have problems with it! Maybe they dont quite understand it or maybe they feel a bit nervous havin a man in a confided space such as a female toilet!

I wouldn't mind, remember there are doors on the stalls. If a man is willing to walk around as a woman then he is pretty darn serious about it. I think the company's response by allowing certain restrooms was appropriate. If certain women weren't comfortable with it, they should not be subjected to it.

No wouldn`t worry me at all. Womens toilets are more private then mens. I have wondered into the gents by mistake, before the smell has alarmed me , I don`t blame anyone for whatever reason preferring the ladies!
