It will depend upon the technician's grade and which lab they are in. Responsibilities usually include ordering equipment and reagents, waste disposal, and making up simple buffers. Higher grade technicians may be responsible for running specialised sets of equipment, doing particular protein preps, any type of technique that is regularly used and so worth paying technical staff to look after. The exact details tend to vary from job to job, but many labs would fall apart without their lab technicians.

The technician in my lab is a fairly low grade and mainly makes up media and sort out our equipment. However technicians in other labs all do different things. Our Mass spec department and our electron microscopes are both run by technical staff, nominally under a member of the academic staff.

It depends very much on the lab involved. Most are involved in general in the cleaning and maintenance of equipment, mixing up chemicals, ordering either equipment or chemicals. Some are also involved in research projects, again, depends on the lab. If you're a lab technician at a school or college, you often have to deal with first aid and be a bit of an emotional support at times too!

If you are working then this is a seriously disturbing question, The health and safety executive could shut you down. People should be "competant" and therefore trained and provided with the correct mechanisms, equipment etc to carry out there job.

Lab work itself usually requires accuracy and being able to deal with tedium and repetitive work. The work must be done meticuosly with no "short cuts" or rushes to produce the best results, you could be indoors for long amounts of time, possibly wearing specialist clothing. Depending on the length of testing you could be working some very unsocialable hours.

You need to say what type of Lab work, as this is a general statement.

Like any other job, responsibilites can vary.
A lab techinician would be expected to perform general testing following procedures. Accuracy and duplication of results is important. In some labs, preparing std solutions, equipment calibration, and cleaning labware are normal duties of the lab technician. Accurate documentation is also important.
