I have always been one of those in morning, i agree with telling people nicely you are not a morning person and please let me wake up before bombarding me with questions or chit chat the sleep thing could be doing it also you are probably getting either too much or not enough sleep so think about this before you get up an hour early you may need to go to bed earlier too.
Once my 2nd baby was born I stay up late for the peace and quiet and get up earlier to tend to him I am quit normal maybe not really cheery like some of those annoying perky morning people....but normal, lol I think I was sleeping too much.
Also look into sleep aid such as tylenol pm take that an hour before you usually start feeling tired and it can help you sleep sounder and get up ealier to give your morning blues time to fade before work...... GOOD LUCK!

Hmmmmm the first way to come to change is admitting you have a problem!!!!!!! LOL. Now to the problem. Is there anyway that you can stay away from people until you feel like being nice? Explain to your coworkeres that you are just not a morning person and you would rather be away from them until your mood changes. That way you can maybe avoid some very hurtful words.

you sound like me. just give them a heads up and let them know mornings are not good for you and they can't hold you responsible for your actions during the first hour or three at work. you don't have a problem with doing your job, you just can't do people first thing in the morning. most of them will understand. and the ones who won't, well they probably just get a kick out of your crossness.

At least you admit it. Maybe take some time to yourself in the morning. Explain to co-workers/friends that you need that time before you do any chit-chatting b/c you recognize that you are inclined to be nasty & don't want to say anything to hurt them. Kind of like a "don't speak to me until after I've had my 1st cup of coffee" thing.

I totally have this problem. The first hour I wake up I am evil, so I have adjusted my body to wake up an hour earlier so that by the time I get to work I am not evil, and I am pleasant. Probably not the best thing to hear but it will work.

More sleep. Excercise, and plenty of water. Less caffine, and good foods.
If you are overweight, take steps to lose some weight.
If you do all that, and it still does not work, seek counseling.
Good luck crabby!
