Sincerely, out of personal experience, it is helpful. Chiropractic adjustments can take some of the pain out, and the regular procedure is to be going at least 3 times a week and maybe more. Yes it is time consuming , needs patience , and only you will know if it is worth your while . I had sciatica and arthritis in the hip, and Chiropractic adjustments kept me going for a long time without any pain. . however in time I needed to do the total hip replacement, and after that surgery the leg that was shorter was adjusted and all the pain was gone. Give it a chance and see what it will do for you, and then decide .

Depending on the method the chiropractor uses to adjust you, it could be done over a period of time or all in one appointment. Some chiropractors think that if a huge adjustment must be made, it should be done over a period of time so that the patient will not feel worse for the first day or two after the adjustment. One chiropractor I had would do the adjustment in one appointment, and it did not bother me a bit. Sometimes I'd have to go back for a second appointment but not very often.
Another chiropractor I had made me come in every few days. I wasn't getting any better after a month, and I decided he just liked the money so I found a better one.
Talk to the chiropractor and ask him these same questions. If he is really trying to help you and not use you for the money, you ought to be able to tell by the answers he gives to these questions.

I started going to the Chiropractor a yr. ago. At first I went 3x a week. That was for the first 3 months. Then I went 2x a week for the next 2 months. Then 1x a week for the rest of the year. It has helped me greatly to improve my mobility and stamina not to mention the reduction in pain. It really does work if...you stick with it and if...you find a good chiropractor. The reason for going so often is the muscles had weakened and could not hold the bones in proper alignment for very long. Just as with exercising, the muscles need to be built back up and well as the bones re-adjusted.
The ex-rays showed Scoliosis in my middle back and subluxation in my neck. I was on the way to having "Dowagers Hump". This is where the neck is straightened and looses its curve. The muscles spasm and grow very sore. Your head is very heavy at this point and feels like a 15 lb. bowling ball sitting on your shoulders.
It is good that you have insurance to cover this as it is rather expensive. I have had to pay out of pocket for mine, it is hard to do. I believe that if I had not gone, I would not be able to walk. The pain in the low back was so bad my legs hurt too muck to walk.
You will have to be the judge of how much you improve. If you find a good dr. he isn't there to make money, he is there to help people feel beter. Find one that you feel you can talk to and trust.
My daughter is now going and has great improvement in her leg pain as well. The one thing I can tell you is that the nerves are all gioing through the spinal collumn. They help the entire body function properly from digestion to sinus. Pain is due to the pinching off of the nerves that run through it. Many symptoms of headaches and sinus pressure and many others can be remedied form chiropractic care. I dont know where you are, but the Spinal Corrective Center is a great place to go in Johsnson City, Tn.
You are not stupid for going, but rather couragous. It takes guts to try something new, especially if you know nothing about it. Give it time as time is the only thing that will show you if it has helped. Everyone is different and we all have differnet things wrong with us. It sometimes takes a long time for it to work, dependeing on the severity of your injuries, so hang in there. Good luck!!!

No, it's not a crock. After you get adjusted, its a foreign feeling for your body, and because of that, your body moves your spine back to where it thinks it should be. It's just what it's used to. This is why you need to be adjusted so often at first. After 6 months or a year, depending on how bad off you are, your appointments should go down to once a week, or less. My mother in law is currently being treated by a chiropractor and its doing wonders for her and she also had to go quite often at first. You're doing the right thing. And remember, your ins company has been at it for awhile. They would know from previous experiences with thousands of other clients if a doctor were trying to rip them off. You're doing the right thing.

Ask questions and see if the chiropractor has an exercise program to see if he is results oriented or in business to mainstream you into his cashflow scheme.
I'm an insurance adjuster and deal with many claims for neck and back injuries. Treatment can vary from massage therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture and acupressure, herbs and natural path to surgery.
From my experience from the job and an auto injury (lower back) that occurred 15 yrs ago, chiropractic treatment does indeed work.
Look for a larger facility that not only does spinal adjustments and electronic (TENS) muscle stimulation but an exercise room where you can strengthen and develop muscles and flexibility of the ligaments. Most patients go in for immediate pain relief but it's the exercise that will maintain proper alignment in the spine. Just like going to the gym for tone and weight loss, you'll have to be just as committed to improvement rather than quick fix chiropractic adjustments.
Good Luck and happy exercising.

2-3 times a week is usually necassary at FIRST for a couple weeks depending on how bad of a mess your spine is in. By the way it sounds, that does sound necessary. This is not unusual for the first couple weeks anway, after that, once or twice a week should be enough until its better. I have been to many different chiropractors myself and this has always been the case and my insurance did not cover anything. And if your insurance does cover it, why wouldnt you want to go? the more you go, the faster you will heal. At first, your muscles are not used to the new adjustment the chiro will give you, so they tend to push the bones back out of place, so you need to go in quite frequently until your muscles and stuff relax and allow the vertebrae to stay in place. good luck.

You really don't need all the qualifiers at the end. Stupid people are more tempted to post unsavory responses just to tick you off with all those silly caps. Okay, now down to the meat. Chiropractic is a crock because, like most medical fields, it doesn't cure the root cause. Poor muscle tone surrounding the spine is the root cause. Just popping a few vertebra here and there is just a temporary fix. If you want to cure it for life you need to do a few simple and easy "exercises" outlined in this book: http://www.amazon.com/Overcome-Neck-Back-Pain-Laughlin/dp/0684852527
Read the reviews to learn a little about the techniques presented in the book and the author's history. He's combined several disciplines in an easy to use program that you can do at home. It's far more useful than chiropractic and lasts much longer. For under $20.00, you can't go wrong.

I went twice in one week when I was having bad pain. They wanted me to do maintenance. I said no. I will only go if I have pain. I got an adjustment about 6 years ago, and haven't needed once since.

In the beginning, you have to go alot. After a while, your visits will probably taper off. Then, you'll only go once or twice a week for maintenance..
Look at this way, they have to fix 10 years worth of damage. It'll take a while, but it's worth it..Good luck.
