The batterys is in the laptop, and it's fully charged. So is it okay to plug it into the AC socket at the same time? Will it cause the battery to overheat or anything? Mine's an Acer laptop, btw.

Makes no difference, think of it as a UPS if the power goes out.

This aspect of using the computer (while the battery is full but still keeping it connected to the Power outlet) simply depends on the battery Technology that Acer uses.

Older Battery Technology that used batteries made of NiMH (Nickel metal Hydride) or NiCad ( Nickel Cadmium) could not be used the way you mentioned. This is because NiCad batteries had a Memory effect. The term 'memory effect ' basically is described as the battery " remembers" its usual discharge point and superficially "needs" a charge whenever it hits that point.
NiMH Batteries were cursed by a bad Weight to power ratio This means that beyond a certain number of charges and discharges the battery will simply not hold the amount of charge that it did when it was new.

The later Technologies like Lithium Ion ( LiIon) does not have this memory effect to that high extent. These still have the issue of not holding charge for a longer time after lots of usage. This would mean that it is necessary to use the battery properly as long as you can. If your Laptop Computer battery is fully charge then I think you should use it (without connecting it to Power Outlet) till it is totally discharged. This keeps the battery healthy and in good condition internally. Moreover if you always really wanted to use the Laptop while connected to the Power Outlet then you would not have needed the battery at all.

Remember this, eventually your battery will give up. So why
over-charge it when by charging( when it is discharged totally) and discharging( by nmormal use without being connected to the Power Outlet), the battery with normal usage you can extend its life.

Actually...i have been told and read many times that when your battery is fully charged it's best to

1. Leave the AC power plugged in
2. Remove the battery

See when you leave a fully charged battery in your laptop, it continually recharges which can kill a battery. As the batter drops (say...below 95%) it starts to charge back up, so the battery is wore out a LOT quicker.

The laptop when plugged in runs purely on the AC adapter, in fact you can remove the battery while it in plugged in if you need to, for instance if and computer manufacturer like Dell recalled your battery and you still need to use your computer, not that that would ever happen.

Your battery will also charge while the AC adapter is plugged in but there are built in circuits to prevent overcharging. so no damage will result form doing so regularly.

no, it is totally OK. the laptop knows just to use the electricity supplied by the AC, and not the one from the battery, and the battery gets out of the way
