I am a huge NASCAR fan and enjoy watching the races. The question I have concerns the recent statements about a possible change in the points system for the Chasers. I have mixed feelings about it and am wondering what other fans think of the possibility of the 10 guys in the Chase having a different points system that the other racers the last 10 races of the season. Let me know what you think.

I am a huge fan also...I really have mixed feelings about the chase also. Have no clue how they could do seperate points for the chasers and if you ask me that doesn't seem fair to the other 33 drivers out there. It would be like they were giving special attention to the drivers in the chase. I liked the idea of the chase at first but really starting to dislike it. A driver can have a picture perfect season to have it all go down the drain in 1 or 2 races. Take for instance the last race when Kasey was taken out, you could see the hurt and dismay in his face. He knew that his hopes of winning the championship where done. I just hope that the drivers that have had problems will come back from it and give it all they got!!
But I do think that something needs to be done with the chase and the points system...they don't take wins away from football teams when there are 10 games to go. That is kind of what they are doing to the chase drivers all the points and races that they have won all season...go out the window. Just to end up being 5 points behind the guy in front of them.

I am a huge nascar fan and I don' think that they should change the points system for the chasers. I hate the new points system. It's not good due to the fact that if your favorite driver has 1 or 2 bad races their pretty much out of the chase. The only drivers that have a chance for the championship is the first 5 drivers. I liked the old points system cause it gave everyone in the top 15 a chance for the championship plus it was more exciting. If Nascar is going to change the points then they should make winning a race worth more points and more points for leading the most laps.

Wow theres a lot to read here, so I'm gonna try and not repeat what someone else has said. Here's my take: Yes and No, As far as my yes, on these boards, we can be, it seems like everyone wants to be the smarter guy or the big contibuter. I see so many good answers get thumbs down and it just blows me away. You can tell by reading folks anwsers on who really is being un-bias in their answers, these are the folks that I consider true fans. A fan, wither or not its against their driver or not, we'll answer a question as un-bias as possible. This just my opinion. As far as my no, fact remains, when your at a track, all the silly stuff that gets said here is completly out the window, because no one cares how long someone has been watching a sport, we're there to enjoy what we all enjoy. Thats good hard racing. As a Jr/Harvick fan, I've set with every other drivers fans, we give each other crap, laugh, drink beer and enjoy the racing. I have never one time gotten into an argument with anyone at a track or off these public forums, because when we are off of here, we're real people that cant hide behind a screen name. (by the way, my name is Darrell) If a person chooses to jump from driver to driver, I really dont care, maybe sometimes it takes that for someone to find a driver that is a good fit for them as a fan. I'd just hate to have their bills for hats, collectibles, stickers and so on. You also dont have to wait out winning slumps. But the bashing is by far not because of Kyle and Logano, I remember some band wagon jumping when Jeff Gordon (just to name one driver) first hit the scene and all the bashing that guys jumping over to him were getting. IMO, it's only more prevalent (at least here on this board) because they're are a lot more folks one this board then what there was this time last year. Either way, I think this is a good question, I try not to come accross as a snob, but how folks interpet other folks comments is always up in the air.

Okay, its not bad at all to be a huge nascar fan trust me I am, and here are my thoughts. I kind of like the Chase format, and since the 400 poing limit has never really came into effect just maybe get rid of it and come up with something new. For instance I would give maybe 5 or 10 points for a pole position and maybe a few more points for leading a lap, all negotiable, and then if you win, get more points, and the guys behind them get less points maybe but I kind of like the way it is now. Then maybe have more ways to get points because I can't really think of any other way to get points other then winning and leading a lap other then that I'm blank right now. Hope you like the ideas. By the way I am a #24 fan!!!! GO #24!!!!

I think the "Chase" is about like American League Baseball. It ain't really true to the sport. I think NASCAR should give more points for wins and laps led. But other than that, it's a race until the end of the season. If you keep the 'Chase' why not just let the top 10 guys go-at-it and the rest of the cars can race by themselves and have a Big winner (Top Ten) and a Wild Card winner from the rest of the pack. And then let's have a 'Winston' race, uh, I mean an "All-Star" race, with the top ten plus the wild card driver. Make it for all the marbles in one race. You can go on forever with this horse hockey. Just race and whoever wins the most points is the Big Winner; PERIOD. Thanks for playing.

I don't like that idea. If someone has a bad day, and finishes say 40th, they should get 40th place points. They should be given the points they deserve. I feel bad for Kasey Kahne though and it sucks that he's basically eliminated because of someone else's mistake, but sh*t happens. And it would be kind of boring if every driver in the chase went into homestead being able to win the championship. Which is how it would be with some of the suggestions people have made. There would really be no point to the other 9 races. I might be ok with it if there was more of a points spread between them, but I think they should just leave the points system the way it is. Maybe a few tweaks, but nothing drastic like that.

l too am a huge NASCAR fan. I'll be honest with you I don't even like the way they have a "chase". I mean let's say your favorite driver has bad luck during the first 5 races or so. Then he and his team get it together and starts moving up in the points. But by the time they have the last race that count for everyone he ends up 11th and more than 400 points behind the leader. He didn't make the chase but he still races ( racers aren't eliminated like football teams ) but during the 10 "chase" races he and his team kick A$$! But no matter how good they are they aren't "allowed" to win the cup. And that sucks! I liked the old points system. People say it's more exciting but like any sport that has playoffs... it's not that exciting if your team isn't in the playoffs. If my racer isn't in the "chase" I loose all interest in the last 10 races. Go Dale Jr!!

I think they should have their own point system. I am a hudge Kasey fan and he has a big moutin to climb to win the championship and I agree with what Tony said this week about the chase.

Here is my idea on how the point should be.
1=10
2=9
3=8
4=7
5=6
6=5
7=4
8=3
9=2
10=1

I think the points should be spread a little more for the top 10.

When the chase begins the top 10 are seperate by 5,10,15,20,25 and so on until the last is 45 points behind. I would like to see a points system that for one used smaller numbers.

a win is worth 10 points and so on down. The only positions that count is the top 10. Racers like Kyle Petty, I am sorry, you will recieve nothing if you fail to make the top 10.

10 for the winner 9 for second and so on until you get to 10th. You get 1 point.

You have tony stewart finishing in 1st one week and then 10th the next week, after two weeks, he has 11 points. You have matt kenseth that finishes 3rd the first week and then 11th the next, he still has only 8 points. No bonuses for leading a lap. We want the racers to win the race, not battle for 12th place and leading 1 lap. With that finish in the current points, the racer would be rewarded with more points than the guy who finishes in 8th. Not fair!

I do like the separate points.

The points system does not need to change. The way it is now, if a driver finishes 33rd in the race, that driver should be awarded points for that finish. If they go to a new system that has been proposed just for the Chase drivers, that same driver could receive 10 points if the rest of the Chasers finish behind him.

Basically, they points need to reflect how good that car was for that day. If somebody goes out and dominates the race, then 190 points is what they should receive. If they blow up or something else and finish last, the points should reflect that too.
