The whole point to the pill is to regulate your ovulation which is turn regulates your period. Those pills that you take at the end of the package are "fake" pills that allow your period to start. So when you stopped taking the pill, the hormone that are in the "real" pills aren't in your system, therefore your period started.

When you stop the pills, you have a period. After a month, the pills have suppressed ovulation. That is how they control pregnancy. It takes a month or so to establish a regular cycle; so use other forms of control for a month.

I do believe that once you stop taking the pill, that you ovulate again because the pill is what stops you from ovulating

if you stopped taking them for good then anything is possible your body gets use to the hormones so it makes your body think its pregnant just like having a baby when you're not pregnant you bleed you periods will go back to normal and when they do you will ovulate 2 weeks after the first day of your last period
