I am having Lan of around 70 systems, This is server(domian) based network, how can i come to know how many machines are on

Probably just a simple IP Scan would do it.

I use a simple program called LookatLan. Free and easy to use. Shows you the PC's on the network along with IP Addresses, Status. Operating System, and more.

Without much to go on about your network's infrastructure, I am assuming that you have a router.

Depending on what router you are using, you can look at the Active DHCP table to see how many machines are connected to the network.

either look at the amount of DHCP leases

or

scan your subnet for active hosts using AngryIPScanner
