I've been making elastic bands with covered buttons. Buy the big coat-button size covered buttons kits at a sewing store. Cover with whatever fabric you like...you can use your teeny-tiny scraps. Then just thread a regular hair elastic through the buttons shank, loop it through itself to secure, and TA-DA. You have a cute ponytail holder.

I used some stretchy nylon covered elastic cord and a crimp bead to hold the ends together.

Grab a red rubber band, take a piece of cloth and measure it out. Then sew it on to the rubber band. Then put on the beads and use it!
